So, I realize this DVD is pretty old... and to be honest, I'm not as big of Opeth fan as many people I know (I have to be in the mood for it)... but the other night I sat down and watched "Lamentations" again... and I gotta say... It's a very enjoyable DVD... The performance is great... but I think my favorite part is the documentary...
Any other thoughts on this DVD or Opeth in general?

Don't have the dvd as I am not a collector of those. Some day I will be when the money starts rolling in and the TV is upgraded. I can comment on Opeth in general, though. I took me quite a while to really appreciate the band. I think the first song I heard by them was Black Rose Immortal, which is around 20 minutes long. I really do enjoy long songs but at first listen this one dragged on waaaaay too long. So, I ignored the band for a while. Then, after hearing a ton of positive reviews of Blackwater Park I decided to take the plunge and buy the cd. Boy am I glad I did. Absolutely stunning atmosphere on that cd. Just mindblowing musicianship and writing. So dark and moody, yet strangely not depressing. Opeth is my current favorite band. I suggest that you give them time, allow the music to grow, allow it take seep into your soul and take over. Listen to the song Blackwater Park, or Bleak. Check out the absolutely intense power of the last 3 or so minutes of the song Deliverance. Check out the haunting melody of Atonement. Soak up the majesty of The Moor, or Serenity Painted Death, or Face of Melinda, or To Bid you Farewell. Feel the pure evil that is Demon of the Fall. I swear that the devil came to earth looking for a theme song and chose that one. The scream in there is pure evil, end of discussion.
DEMON!!!!! DEMON OF THE FAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!!
Happy hunting! I can't urge you enough to take the time to get to know this band and all it can offer you. It may take some time but I believe it will be worth it.

| I can definitely understand that some do see what the hype is all about. It took me a long time to understand and appreciate the band. I'm talking years, at least 2. Now they are probably my favorite band. But, to each his own. No big deal.
