Your genre of preference will obviously effect the answer to this question, but what style of singing do you prefer the most?

Well, my favorite vocalists have clean vocal styles. I do enjoy a good death metal growl from time to time, however.
Some of the singers I enjoy the most are DC Cooper from Silent Force, Ray Alder from Fates Warning and James LaBrie. Mikael Akerfeldt is damn good too, expecially since he can actually sing in addition to the hell that comes from within.

My favorite vocalists are also somewhat clean in style... Actually, as uncool as it is to say in this day and age... I personally feel that Sebastian Bach's performance on "Slave To The Grind" is a masterpiece... He could sing a beautiful vocal melody... and yet unleash tremendous range and scatchy metal... Sometimes I just have to listen to that CD to remember how good it really is..
Warrel Dane, Matt Barlow, Dickinson, etc...
But.. I am also a huge fan of death and thrash metal... more on the mid to high range vocals in these genres...

| Sebastian Bach is also an incredible singer, and Slave to the Grind is probably his best work. Wasted Time and one other song I can't remember the name of right now are excellent examples of his power and ability. Warrell Dane and Bruce Dickinson are superb singers, each with a distinct style. Good stuff.

| I really think A metal singer that has great melody is a rare find.I agree with bare & vodoo SEBASTION BACH is a fucking vocalist banshee , But i have to say I really love the power vocals from the 80's . you just don't find singers like that any more . my top 3 are 1.JASON Mcmasters ( this guy can do it all -from Metal to rock to blues & pop) he has never let me down . he gives 110% at every show !! 2.Geoff Tate - in my opinion probaably the best in power metal . he can hit any range flawlessly . 3.Rob Halford - Absolute Metal !! when you think about the Vocal Godz of metal He's at the very top .

I like screams and growls. If you have no clue what the heck the singer is saying, then it's perfect And if it's nice clean vocals it has to be female, that's my favourite.

I'd have to say my favorite singer is (or was) Dead of Mayhem. If you have ever heard Chainsaw Gutsfuck, he has something about his voice that sends a shiver down your spine. Also i like the Rhapsody singer, but i am not sure of his name... i should get on that
