Search through all the CD's you own and list the heaviest, most brutal music you have.  Should be interesting to see what each of us considers "brutal".  I'll start, of course.

Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast 2005.  Just got this and holy hell.  That is all I can say.

Testament - The Gathering.

Death - Symbolic.  Brutal and technical at the same time = heavenly.

At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul.

Himsa - Hail Horror.

Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked

Kataklysm - Serenity in Fire, In the Arms of Devastation.

Metallica - Master of Puppets.

Pantera - Cowboys from Hell

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss

I have a bunch of CD's that I have not listened to enough to gauge the heaviness yet.  Stuff like Devil Driver, Darkest Hour, Hypocrisy, etc.  I'm sure some would have to be included.

As long as I got Rock n Roll I'm forever young

I think later Immortal, Dimmu and Mayhem are pretty brutal. I never considered traditional black metal to be brutal at all, it's harsh but not brutal. I think anything thick, heavy, loud and very aggressive is brutal. Like the more extreme side of thrash and death metal is what I mainly call brutal. But everyone is different I guess.

What you used to love now, you're gonna adore. With Charmin Ultra, less is more. Cha Cha Cha, Charmin.

The only thrash album that I would really call brutal is Dark Angel's Darkness Descends. It makes Reign In Blood sound like Def Leppard. Even most death metal doesn't come close to that brutality. I haven't listened to it in a couple of years though so I might be romanticizing it a little.
