Ok, help me out...

Give me your favorite Progressive/Technical artists & their albums... So, I can further my knowledge and pleasure in this fine genre...

Your help would be appreciated...

WatchTower and Dream Theater are obvious

I've been digging Pagan's Mind recently.  The new one, Enigmatic: Calling, is incredible.  The singer took some time getting used to but I enjoy him know.

Also really, really like Dreamscape, although they are, in many peoples minds, a big rip-off of Dream Theater.  I can definitely hear it but I like the band anyway.  Check out End of Silence.

Tunnelvision is another, although very hard to find.  The second cd Tomorrow is excellent.  Again, the singer is a little hard to get used to but after a while I got used to him, too.

From a power metal perspective, check out Twilightning (Delerium Veil and Plague-House Puppet Show) and Silent Force (Empire of Future, Infatuator, and Worlds Apart).  Silent Force is one of my favorites.

Happy hunting!

Sweet... thanks so much for the info...

If your ever in the mood for some insanely technical musc, check out Spastic Ink... A project by Ron Jarzombek (of WatchTower fame).. Warning : it is very technical and the first releases are all instrumental... (http://www.ronjarzombek.com)

Keep em coming

No new suggestions yet, but I am listening to Dreamscape's End of Silence right now and I can't tell you how good this stuff is.  It does sound like a cd that Dream Theater woulda/coulda/shoulda made right after Awake, but oh, well.

The album before End of Silence is called Very.  Different vocalist with a much weaker voice/range.  The music, however, is very high quality.

Umm lets see Antithesis is a prog/thrash band from were I'm from. Their first two albums are good but now their new singer makes them sound to much like Symphony X. Not that I don't like SX but I thought Antithesis had there own sound and know they sound like somebody.

I've heard of Antithesis before but never actually heard the music. Just one more band to add to the list that I need to check out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Well , seems like voodoo & i have much in common !!  I love pagans mind the guitarist's are awesome .I burned that disc & keep it in my car now. dreamscape is a great band also , as for any new bands well .. i have tons !!

The latest i've been listening to is Gordian knot. they have a blend of Dream Theater & Rush with a more controlled sound compared to other prog bands & they are instrumental. Great musicians.

I also ran across a band named Pyramid who are a bit more of a Queensryche\crimson glory sound but the music has more prog feel.the vocalist is really great though, the cd  i have is only 6 songs but it is really good . i am in search of thier full album now.

I also stumbled upon Vox Tempus ,a band who's sound is similar to TILES ( another prog band ) the vocalists are very similar with the only exception being that vox tempus has a harder edge & the vocalist drops his range to a deeper growl on some tunes ...a lot of rush ,DT,maiden influence here .

Eternity X offers a symphonic feel to their music and has a great group of musicians . A lot of rythmic changes & great range on the vocals .

If you havent been lucky enuff to check out MAGNITUDE 9 well your missing out ,great musicianship on these guys , & the originals have great melody ,Fast ,& edgy guitar driven riffs with great keyboard playing .They have 3 cd's out now and they all kick ass.

I still don't know exactly whether or not htis band falls into Prog or just metal ,But i like em -STYGMA IV -their earlier stuff had a more prog sound from what i can tell & their latest album leans more to a metal sound.so check em out & let me know what u guys think.

I still think VANDEN PLAS is a great band . I like their songs ,they stick in my head & thats always something i look for in a band .i'm sure you all have heard of them & if not THEM get off your ass & check them out !!!!!!!!

hope this helps bare !! Take it easy !!
