I like their new stuff better than their old stuff, but in my opinion, they have always used too much symphonics.

I thought that their earlier works had more tasteful synths, like with early Emperor, Tormentor, Mercyful Fate etc. Spiritual Black Dimension, which is my favorite Dimmu album, was the one with the most synths. Puritanical and Deathcult didn't really have that much synths really. I still think that the musicianship on SBD was the best though and it was their heaviest album. I love all their stuff though.

I agree and to me they also use to much keyboard elements in their music.

I love their first 5 albums but after that, they just become boring in my eyes. I was quite happy to hear Hellhammer would be joining for the new album. However, I was suprised being that he did make the comment "Dimmu Borgir is what's wrong with Black Metal" I guess even the greats have a price you can put on them.

I saw the documentary. Hellhammer didn't say Dimmu Borgir. Maniac said all these bands that are like "da da da da" (doing a techno sound) but didn't mention any band names. He was referring to bands like Cradle of Filth, The Covenant (Hellhammer's band,a nd Hellhammer knew that Maniac meant that) and stuff like that. Hellhammer said right after it that it had nothing to do with Dimmu. Mayhem and Dimmu have always been friends. They've toured together. Hellhammer helped Tjodalv find the vocalist and bassist I think to form Susperia actually.

Besides, I think Mayhem and Dimmu sound pretty similar now, except Dimmu had the orchestra. I think Dimmu has gotten a lot more guitar based on the last 3 albums and the re-recording, so I'm really looking forward to the new album. I just would have liked Tjodalv back in the band though. I like him a little better than Hellhammer actually.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I appreciate it. Newer Mayhem does resemble Dimmu quite a bit I believe
