I love Darkthrone and they create such an atmosphere, but even though the guys in the band are actually good musicians, Darkthrone's music is not really requiring all that much talent to play. I know they are not NSBM despite that whole "Norsk Arisk BM" and that "Transylvanian Hunger is beyond critism and whoever doesshould be Patronized for their obviously Jwish behavior", Fenriz Nocturno arenot racists.
But Varg Vikernez, Rob Darken, the guys in Absurd, Nokturnal Mortem, Legion Of Doom etc may create atmospheric music that is really good,but they are terrible musicians. Some of it makes old Venom and Celtic Frost soundskilled.
Maybe we are differing on our opinion of a good musician. I think Varg Vikernes is an excellent musician. He has released some of the best music ever in any genre of "metal".

| He's a good songwriter and he plays his instrument how the music would require it. I meant he's a bad musician as far as skill goes. Like when he was "shredding" at the end of many of his earlier songs, you could almost laugh at how poorly he was just cramming random notes together. Even someone like Yngwie Malmsteen, who I think is amazing but overrated, actually has structure in his solos, but he can't write a really good song if his life was depending on it. Basically, I just think that most NSBM bands are able to make good music that is melodic, atmospheric, harsh and sometimes catchy, but it's usually very very simple and doesn't require too much skill to play. It requires a lot of emotion and passion which is what helps make the atmosphere. That's my opinion anyway.

I just can't stand racism in Metal. So, I am very much against it. Even though Nokturnal Mortum is one of my favorite bands and I do enjoy Burzum, it just really isn't for me. I can't stand that neo-nazi shit.

| I don't really mind NSBM lyrics. They are very proud and nationalistic, but they are usually not racist. The musicians save the racism for their interviews and if they have hatecore projects. I stay away from the hatecore/white power metal (not power metal)/country bands. The musicianship is crappy enough with the black metal bands but they make up for it in the atmosphere. Atmosphere plays no part in the other projects, so they are just shitty racist bands. By the way, I think Hatebreed was a hatecore band. Not just because of the name and the shaved heads, I think they had a song called "Kill All The N*****s". Not that I care since Hatebreed sucks big fat woodies.

ABout Hatebreed, I remember something about that song. Some people just told me it was some hoax that somebody renamed another song and just put it up for download on places like Soulseek and stuff. I never really understand the shaved head thing so I can't even comment. I am not a fan of Hatebreed, I do like how they try to give a positive and uplifting message though. So I would be dissapointed if that song was actually real. Other than that though, I could care less about Hatebreed.

One thing I will say to Jasta's defense is that he is actually a big metalhead and is into King Diamond/Mercyful Fate. Other than that, terrible musicians, terrible music, terrible songs, terrible band.

| Have to love Mercyful Fate and King Diamond fan. If I had to pick a NSBM album that could be considered actually "classic" i'd go with Nokturnal Mortum's Goat Horns if you don't have it, I highly recommend it.
