| Ok... Here is a really glamorous part of my life... NOT.. I just started a bathroom renovation in my home. This will be my second bathroom renovation, so I'm not really worried about it... but I just don't like the amount of work that is in front of me. I've given it two days of labor... and have all the walls, cabinets & sinks torn down... and yes, I bled more than a few times... I actually enjoy this kind of stuff... If I can do it at my own pace.. I really have no idea why I'm posting this on the forum... just thinking maybe we could trade renovation battle stories... Gosh, I'm weird

I wish I was brave enough to tackle a renovation like that. Lord knows my house needs 2 new bathrooms. Actually, my house needs a lot of new stuff. Since I have 2 babies coming soon I often think about finally finishing off the basement and making part a playroom, but I don't have the knowledge, experience or time to do it myself. And I really don't have the money either. I joked with my wife about her father, who is retiring in April. He has the knowledge and experience to do the work and I think he could use a hobby after retirement.
The only work I have ever done is put up a fence at my old townhouse and one at my current house, and me and a buddy added a kitchen island last year, that is still incomplete. I have yet to add the trim at the bottom and the stain is no good already. I never properly prepared the surface and now it looks like crap.
I for one am interested to hear how things go so keep posting updates when you can. I'm a sucker for projects around the house, even though I can't really do them myself. Aside from watching soccer, my favorite TV shows are on HGTV - Generation Renovation, Rezoned, and Before and After. So a thread like this is right up my alley.

| Ha.. Here we are talking home renovation on the metal forum... It's classic.. Actually, this is my largest project to date.. This project is really combining 2 bathrooms into 1... with lots of plumbing, electrical and carpentry issues. I'll keep you posted.. as long as my fingers aren't bleeding to badly.. LOL

Well, I guess since this is being discussed in the "general discussion" forum then who cares! I know I can talk about this kind of stuff til the cows come home.If I had the opportunity I would go back to school for architecture or urban planning. Wish I had figured out that's what I wanted to do when I was younger.

| Well, all the sheetrock is down... the cabinets are all gone... Tonight & this weekend, I'm pulling the carpet and the bathtubs out... and then doing the major clean up... Next week, I'm going to have my brother in-law come over. He is a carpenter. I want him to look over the situation and offer any words of advice before I take that wall completely down.. I'm sure he'll be able to save me many headaches just by stopping in and giving it a look over... I'm going to go purchase the wood flooring tomorrow night.. Damn, this shit is expensive!!! arrrghhhh...

| Renovations in general are expensive. Not that I have been part of any major ones, though. What little work I have done in the past has been but a flash in the pan compared to a whole room renovation. Hell, even the unfinished kitchen island was more than I wanted to spend. Good idea to have your bro-in-law take a look at it. I'd hate for you to have to go back and change things, or worse take down a load-bearing wall. That would be major suckage. Sending good vibes your way.
