Mike Portnoy will be teaming up with Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert and Gary Cherone to play 3 dates as a Who cover band.  I think the dates are in May.  One Cailfornia, one in Illinois, I think, and one in New York.  Accordning to Portnoy this is the 4th and last of his cover bands.  Previously he did The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and the last one escapes me right now.

That Rush cover band was with a good friend of mine on vocals (Jason McMaster).  I believe they called themselves "Cygnus & the Seamonsters".

voodoo, I had heard they were going to release a CD/DVD of that Rush tribute performance.  Have you heard anything about that?

Thanks...

Well, I believe that the Beatles cover show was released, the Led Zeppelin will be released, but I am not sure about the Rush one.  I'd be surprised if it was not, or will not be released.  I'll check.  And you are correct about the name, Cygnus and the Sea Monsters.  The Beatles was Yellow Matter Custard and Zeppelin was Hammer of the Gods.  The Who shows will be as Amazing Journey.

Yeah, neither have I.  Sucks.  Although, when the news broke about The Beatles and Zeppelin tribute it was kinda hush hush for a while leading up to disclosure.  Could be the same thing here.  That show was back in September, so it may be that Portnoy is just waiting to get the US tour finished before concentrating on DVD's.  He is going to be a busy man this summer despite Dream Theater taking a well-deserved break.

Rumor has it (and semi-confirmed by the Man himself) there will project consisting of Mike Portnoy, Steven Wilson (from Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Akerfeldt.  Now that would be a treat for the ears.
