| Night Watch was the first movie in the trilogy. I figured that out when I was looking at the books online earlier this week. Needless to say, I am totally pissed at myself for not checking it out before watching the first movie. Hopefully a few questions will be answered...

Josh F. (5/29/2008) Jessica, how long have you had Toxic Avenger from Netflix? Have you kept it out so long that they figured they weren't getting it back?Ha! No, I have a pirating issue...but I pay for the movies, so why not keep a copy for myself.

| I watched High Tension and I was not impressed. They really botched the ending. It was a Fight Club knock-off slapped onto a film with very little actual character development and a lot of scenarios that make no sense when considered in retrospect. The gore was there, but the gore scenes weren't enough to carry the rest of the film or off-set the lame "twist" ending. The two employees in the video store tonight were raving about the unexpected brutality of the new Rambo movie, so I might check that out in the near future. I don't think I've seen any of the other Rambo films so I may have to start from the beginning.

I've been doing research on reproductive rights, abortion, and adoption issues lately. I've been reading books and watching films on the matters of adoption during the Baby Scoop Era and today.
From Suzie Kidnap:
Love, War, Adoption
Out of the Fog: Mothers Speak About Adoption
Others:
Motherhood, Adoption, Surrender, and Loss
I've also watched films that relate to this subject on some level, including The Magdalene Sisters, which dealt with Irish laundry houses of yesteryear. This summer, I plan on reading [i]The Handmaid's Tale[/i[ by Margaret Atwood. I've heard that the book resembled, on a strange and more twisted scale, the experience of living in a maternity home and losing one's child to adoption.

| Last night I started the fourth season of HBO's The Wire. The show is the best cop drama on television, by far! I am currently watching Manowar: The Absolute Power. How could anyone not love Manowar while playing in Germany? It's probably one of my favorite concert DVDs, although every time I am reminded that I need to pick up Battle Hymns. Tonight is a doubleheader: The Toxic Avenger (I broke down and rented it from the store) & Downfall (a personal favorite)

| Surprisingly, I did find a copy of The Toxic Avenger here at my usual rental place. Good stuff. Making him mutant-grunt all the time and then giving him a gentlemanly speaking voice was such a rad idea. I didn't like how the four main tormentors of mop boy had the least impressive punishments. I think only 1 of the 4 actually got killed. The random schmucks got the cool death scenes. Oh well. I'll have to see sequels eventually. I'm working on the Rambo series now too. I watched the first and have II and III at home.

| Well I finally got to the new Rambo. That one actually lived up to the hype. People got esssploded! By far, my favorite of the series, but that isn't really saying much. For some dumb reason I figured I might need to see the other three before the new one, but of course, it's an action movie, so plot is irrelevant. The first First Blood was decent. Part 2 just pissed me off because they bust cop-killer psycho Rambo out of jail for a mission where it's important that whoever they send "doesn't flip out" and "does not engage in combat" but only takes pictures. Rambo's Colonel buddy is all like "Rambo is a blood and guts killing machine trained to destroy and survive. He's perfect for this mission." Riiiight...
