WEll I actually got into the genre like two years ago. I love a lot of the proto-doom and some of the big timmers. My favorites would have to include:
Black Sabbath
Mercy
Candlemass
Touble
Count Raven
Pentagram
Solitued Aeturnus
Child Saint
Dream Death
Memento Mori
Nemesis

to name a few.

I find it strange to lump Black Sabbath into this category, but the more I thought about it the more it fits.  Other than that I'm not much of a fan of doom metal.

The Sabbath albums with Ozzy on vocals were totally doom metal. imo. But when they got Dio and Tony it was more heavy traditional styled metal.

What about Sleep? Would you consider "Dopesmoker" to be a Doom album? It is very Sabbath style.
