| I'm becoming obsessed with this band! I found a used copy of Spheres in a local store several months ago and I dug it quite a bit. A while later, I came across the Roadrunner 2-for-1 set of Consuming Impulse and Testimony of the Ancients, so I picked that up too. That's where my obsession started. While Spheres is more spacey and experimental (think of a mixture between Cynic and later-era Death), CI & TotA are more straight-up, classic death metal. TotA is my favorite thus far, and Terrorizer described it as having a cinematic feel to it, which I agree with. It's like a death metal zombie movie score. I love it. Reading about them just now, I discovered that Tony Choy played bass on TotA, which is crazy...I just saw him with Atheist last week. He was also in Cynic. Aside from a couple of demos, Malleus Maleficarum was their first official album, which I haven't heard yet. I'm guessing I'll dig it. There was also a "best of" release from '94 and a live album released in '06. I'm missing those too. So...anyone else into these guys? They're definitely worth checking out if you're into Death, Atheist and Cynic.

| I do like Pestilence. If you like Death, Atheist, Cynic, and Pestilence, a couple of newer bands that would be worth checking out are Illogicist and Alarum. EDIT: I hate how capital I and lowercase L look the same. That band's name is ILLOGICIST

| I've only heard Malleus Maleficarum. It's pretty good IMO. I've always wanted to check out the rest of this band's output. However, whenever I see comparisons to Cynic, I cringe. I abhore Cynic.

| Spheres is pretty similar to Cynic. Not really as electronic sounding, but the style is pretty similar. I prefer Cynic a lot more though. Focus is one of my favorite tech albums

Metalhead87 (5/7/2007) Spheres is pretty similar to Cynic. Not really as electronic sounding, but the style is pretty similar.Very true. I was just thinking about that this morning. They're both very spacey, but Cynic is more like cyborg metal. I don't have Mallleus, but I'm assuming it's pretty typical old school death. Consuming Impulse is all about the old school death sound, but Testimony of the Ancients saw them adding some weird ambient stuff and a more structured sound. Definitely my fave. Metal War Productions released a Pestilence live album last year that featured songs from their demos. I want to pick that one up.
