I forgot to mention Katatonia, but MegaDoomer beat me to it. They're pretty damn good.
I'm not exactly a Type O Negative fan. The music bores me.
I also saw their vocalist after a show one time. Luckily I didn't like the music before I saw him so I cannot be accused of hating a band because of how the members act.
A good NYC doom band is Grey Skies Fallen.

Katatonia doesn't seem like it should be in the Doom genre, but I've only listened to a few songs posted on myspace.

| Katatonia is more "goth metal" even though I hate that category name. From what I've listened of Anathema, most of their stuff isn't really Doom either, it falls more into the goth category as well. I can't stand Sunn O))) either, but I agree with Metalhead that it's more ambient noise than it is Doom Metal. I would probably lump them into the generic category of "experimental." I think I've mentioned this on here before, but Boris, the band Sunn O))) worked with recently is credited for creating the genre Drone Metal. Anyway, I brought Katatonia up because they're often recommended for fans of My Dying Bride, and I like them.

Euro-doom is often similar to that sub-genre (I will not say the name of that sub-genre for bands I like).
Boris is alright, but I never really got into those albums. There's much better drone out there.
I really enjoy Sunn O))), I don't know where all the hate comes from.

I enjoyed the few Katatonia songs I was able to find, and they so sound like "goth metal" to me. I'm glad you said that first. There's so many "goth" haters here.  I'll have to listen to more of their stuff. Thanks for the suggestion!
