Metallica, Although a great band is far to over rated.. theres to many people who listen to them thinking that they're total gods, but theres thousands of bands out there with triple the talent

But you can't say talent decides how great a band is - songs decide the greatness of a band.

The only good things about the St. Anger CD that I got at KMART for $9.99 were the bonus DVD and the Metallica Vault stuff. Downloaded some killer stuff from the early days. Some amazing bootlegs were available!!

I only like a few of Metallica's old songs. Other than that, I seriously cannot stand their music.

What you used to love now, you're gonna adore. With Charmin Ultra, less is more. Cha Cha Cha, Charmin.

Oh, yeah. That bonus stuff was worth the $9.99! You got the DVD, which sounded better than the actual album, plus you could go to the vault and download 3 full shows!

Has anyone gone to the vault at metallica.com lately? That shit is awesome!! You can download any one of about 100 friggin' concerts they've played over the past 24 years. some of them, like a couple of shows from 1982 w/ Mustaine and McGovney are free, but for only $10 you can download other shows, plus the art for the CD cover and the CD tray in-lay! It was pretty cool to go download shows that I've actually been to!

I will always have a love for old Metallica, but like you, I forget the goodness because of the last few albums.  The old tunes take me back to my childhood; watching MTV back when MTV was the only channel who would play a Metallica, Pantera or Megadeth video.

…And Justice for All will always be my favorite album.  This was the first metal album I listened to with my older brothers and it has stuck with me over the years.  It’s an incredible thrash album, and maybe this is reaching, but I would say it’s one of the best of it’s time.

Kill ‘Em All is my least favorite album (of the old).  There are a few good songs like Whiplash, Seek and Destroy, and No Remorse, but overall, this album doesn’t touch the other early albums.  It’s faster than hell and they’re tight, no doubt, but this one just doesn’t do much for me.

Ride the Lightning brings back so many fond memories.  I truly enjoy this album and actually just revisited it recently.  Wow, it’s powerful!  For Whom the Bell Tolls is my favorite song; I can play air guitar like no other.  Fade to Black and The Call of Ktulu are both killer songs too, but honestly, there isn’t one song on this album that I dislike.

Master of Puppets; where do I begin!  This album should be my favorite as it is the best in my opinion and the most highly regarded album, but because I have emotional ties to Justice this one fell short.  My favorite song on this album is Master of Puppets.  This song really gets the adrenaline pumping.  Much like Ride the Lightening, there isn’t one song I could do without.  Battery, The Thing That Should Not Be, Sanitarium, Disposable Heroes, Damage Inc., Leper Messiah….the whole album is excellent.  Some say Orion is boring…I love that damn song!  I have to agree that this album is a landmark in metal history.

The Black Album, although it is the sell out album, is still enjoyable for me.  Anything after this album is garbage.

I dreaded the release of the Some Kind of Monster dvd, but it was actually entertaining at times.  It revealed the different personalities in the band, some of which I didn’t know, and quite honestly, didn’t want to know.  Lars is such a whiny little bitch.  This DVD portrays that quite clearly.   And the Dave Mustaine appearance was rather pathetic but I enjoyed hearing his prospective.  Let it go Dave…just let it go!

The one good thing I can say about Metallica nowadays is they support the West Memphis Three.   They have given them the rights to use their music in Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills.  The three, now adults, went to jail as teenagers because of the stigma attached to black tee shirts and the evil music of Metallica, so I think their support is admirable.

I agree with pretty much everything you just wrote about the old vs the new Metallica. Of the old, though, my favorite is Master of Puppets and my favorite on the album is Disposable Heroes. Abso-fucking-lutely a killer song. MoP is damn good, as well. From Ride the Lightning Fade to Black is the best, and in my younger days that was a song I used to listen to A LOT when I was down in the dumps.

Mmmmm, so many memories attached to this band.
