Haven't stopped by in about a month...
WHAT THE HAY'ELL IS GOING ON!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
DETAILS MY FRIENDS!!
News with the Cthulhu.... I'm about 3 months away from my basic Audio engineering certificate... I'm working on my first recording project right now and things are coming along great.. Then.... I finish the advanced music production course which is about 18 weeks... and .. I go into the world... I have a band I'm working with now that I have the utmost faith in and I just got this feeling that if me and them work together.. we're both going to make it somewhere. I'm going to produce a couple of their songs here in a week or two and see how that goes. WISH ME LUCK!

| Good luck with the audio engineering, dude. I hope you put it to good use and record some good music. I haven't seen or heard anything new with the Witch in a while, so it doesn't seem like you have missed much on that front. I am still eagerly awaiting some kind of update myself. They must be holed up in the studio making killer music.

Holed up in the studio... Believe me.. I know how that one goes... maybe not from a band's viewpoint but I do know how that goes.... Sitting 8-10 hours a day at the board clicking around in Pro Tools while some band plays the same song 5000 times and gets so picky you have to take the same drum parts over and over... and when it's not good enough because you can only do so much to help and the musician sucks.... they complain so you do a new track..
Some people shouldn't be able to play instruments or rent out studios.
I want to fill the general public in about a computer program called Auto-Tune. Basically it is what it says it is for vocals. As long as you are within 1-step off of the right note, you can tune it... So, ever wondered how Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and all of thos fancy slutmongers got albums that sounded good? Yeah.. They payed some guy like me 10 mil... I'm almost ashamed at some of the stuff I see done.. It really kills the aspect of music itself.. but I guess that's the biz.

Yea, there is no way some of those "singers" can actually sing without assistance. But, there are some people out there that are only interested in image and not substance. That's why Britney is popular.
Scary.

What you do is very impressive, Cthluthu. Most people don't have the skills to make music sound great (especially not some crappy musicians). Congratulations on earning your audio engineering certificate! As a funny anecdote- I went to buy Iron Maiden's "A Matter of Life and Death" on the day it was released in the U.S. I went to Best Buy, where AMoLaD sat right next to shitloads of copies of Paris Hilton's new album. This was on a Tuesday. I came back to Best Buy that Saturday to buy something for my dad, and Maiden's new album was almost sold out, while Paris Hilton's album was gathering dust on the shelves. (I know this for sure, I collected a dust sample on the tip of my index finger.) Score for the metalheads! EDIT:I don't know whether or not I told this story on the boards before, but that proves that true music will endure over years while trendy little-girl trends will struggle and fail. I also forgot that most girls my age download music now, so perhaps it's saying something about the personalities of metal fans versus pop fans...

Well any seasoned engineer is going to tell you what will separate you from the rest of the world is your skill with compression and sends/returns. Getting that perfect balance... There is always going to be someone better than you, it's just a fact of life... But tuning my ears is the hardest part of it all... I'm getting to the point now that I can pick out my pre-amps and equipment.. Like "Yeah dude.. you guys have this sound... I think the guitar needs to be run through the Avalon tube instead of the Manley.. you want that darker tone right? EH EH?"
It's a good feeling. I love playing my bass and such.. but I have come down to face terms that I will never be as good as some of these other guys. While I can hold my ground, I just don't have the super killer chops. Making current music sound better has always been my niche, especially in the rock/metal area. Not to mention, if one day I do finally master my instrument... I'll have production skills on my back and I won't have to pay some idiot thousands of dollars to do an album.
I would probably die if I wasn't doing something with music... Atleast this way I am comfortable with my abilities enough to know that when this is all done I will be able to make it in the world.... Down here in Texas there aren't enough real metal bands.... My goal is to get a reputation for being the go-to guy for oldschool heavy metal. I've taken my first few steps.

Warryor - Slayer.
Recording is kinda sloppy right now since it was done in a house... I'm hoping to get the guys to come into the studio and rework a lot of the tracks so I can get some decent balance and shit in there for em. I know I brag about these guys too much in here but I'm going to be producing their stuff... I gotta be kinda cheery.. They want me to get some decent recordings of em around and this just happens to be my favorite song off of their promo album.. (Something about the solo.)
