| Not me, that's for sure. I tried a little many moons ago to play guitar but I just didn't have the manual dexterity. On the other music forum I frequent, www.mikeportnoy.com, I think the majority of members there are musicians. Some are professionals, such as Australian (I think) guitarist Chris Brooks. Also, most are amazed that I am not a musician and I enjoy the music of Dream Theater, a very talented band. I think part of the preception is that non-musicians tend to listen to music that does not challenge them in way a band such as Dream Theater might. Oh, well. Anyway, are there any other musicians here? I think I know of 2 that are in bands that are registered but have not posted yet. Could be wrong on that part, though. Also, is it MistyCastle and Efil that are in their school band? If you are a musician, what do you play, how long have you been playing, and why did you choose that instrument? Anyone in particular that is an influence? Do you think musicians appreciate music a bit more than non-musicians, or does that not even matter? Personally, I think musicians tend to find the nuances of a peice much easier than non-musicians. I think everybody can appreciate good talent but that maybe musicians can hear subtle parts of a song better, can pick out scales and chords (obviously) within each song, etc. I think I have a pretty good ear for certain things but nobody can pick apart a song better than an accomplished musician. OK, my incohesive rambling is over for now. Thanks for listening.

| Well, lotta rambling there , but i like the fact that you pointed out that musicians "pick out the nuances of songs easier " . I play guitar & i've been playing for 19 yrs . I find so many things in music that most people wouldn't notice,Mostly out of habit . I guess after all these years of being in bands & writing songs you get an ear for them .I remember at rehearsels always listening for the mistakes or changes in our music and then going back & fixing them ,like when parts are over played or drum fills were off .MAINLY it was usually the vocals . either he was changing melody or not on time . but of course many things add to making a great song & just having a good song . of course i won't get into all that . LOL as for me I play guitar , bass, & i have sung vocals b4 but now i just write .I consider myself a songwriter more than a musician . I play guitar above average but I wouldn't say i'm a great soloist .I do play leads but I concentrate more on songs rather than dazzling leads .I did all that in the 80's LOL. I love the guitar But i like playing bass when i jam with a drummer . It's a more solid form of songwriting for me . I own a gibson -Black beauty - guitar & i play thru Marshall amps ,I am just recently learning more about pc recording & have started recording at home .( so any help from others on this would be helpful ) I play in a cover band named D.A.M.I.J. and are in the process of writing new material . I also play in an all original band named "Texas Trash " and have just completed some new material in the styles of DToys, skid row,Broken Teeth,&asphalt ballet to name a few .We hope to get a website up soon & get some of our material out to you !! for a sample of DAMIJ you can find some covers at http://www.soundclick.com/damijus

| Wow, sounds like you keep yourself very busy. I am extremely jealous of anybody who can play any instrument. I love music so much yet can't play at all. Sucks for me. I also used to try my hand at writing lyrics. Mostly bluesy stuff. That was just as hard. I don't think too many people understand how difficult it is to be a musician, even part time. To be a full time musician/songwriter has got to be one of the more difficult jobs in the world, yet at the same time one of the more enjoyable.

Yes, me and Efil are both in our school band, but Efil's playing percussion right now since his contra bass clarinet hasn't come in yet </3. Buy your instrument lol! Well I used to be in a band with a friend, where I did vocals, but considering it was just me on voice and her on guitar...it kinda fell apart. I'm in grade 9 flute right now although I've only been playing for 6 years, and I love it like CRAZY! I go to band camp for two weeks during the summer, I've been to honour bands, I compete at Kiwanis every year (I won second place twice yay), I go to professional flute recitals...basically anything that will improve my playing! I'm definitely going to continue playing my flute after high school, even if I don't manage to take it as a course in university. And then there's my singing...oh gosh, I have been told all my life that I am the worst singer in the world, yet when I finally have the guts to join choir they think I'm material for vocal jazz and chamber choir!! Oh yeah, and I'm singing Oh Canada for the school on the intercom next week, be prepared for that Efil. The moral of the story is don't listen to your friends. Do what you love. I definitely agree that musicians appreciate the music more, because we've been taught to. I remember when I was younger and I was forced into flute recitals, every student would have to criticize the other students on what they did wrong. It was soo hard! But now you just know. It's so easy to tell between someone who's been practising and someone who really doesn't care. A lot of my friends don't even hear the notes played in metal songs, they think it's just noise. I'm sure everyone has heard that! But we know the notes are there, and we can hear them . Wow, now look what you've done Voodoo, I've become a rambler too!
A foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven.
