Korpiklaani – Voice of the Wilderness Napalm Records 2005 10 / 10 For one who has never heard Korpiklaani before, or any folk metal for that fact, it is quite an experience. Korpiklaani however, is my favorite folk metal band and will continue to be until I find one with such an upbeat attitude and the like. I have many folk metal albums, and this one is packed with fast hard hitting music, that makes you feel like dancing. So far they have two releases, but this one is the better of the two in my opinion. Voice of the Wilderness starts out with the song Cottages and Saunas and has an upbeat violin riff which sets the mood for the whole CD. From there a heavy drum beat comes in and the song just takes off. My friends and I sing this song while kicking ass in Halo. We both know the lyrics and don’t even bother to listen to the song sometimes; we both have it in our heads. Very memorable CD if I ever saw one. Field of Flames is another good song, but I cannot measure the songs against one another, for they are all amazing. Throughout the CD, a steady stream of violin comes at you, and in a few songs thy have shaman drums bombarding you, such as in the drinking song Beer Beer! There are also plenty of foresty instrumental such as Pine Woods and the even more upbeat Ryyppäjäiset. I recommend this album to whoever is into fast yet upbeat stuff, as Korpiklaani is not a mopey suicide driven bands. Very happy music. This album is one of my favorites.
