I found them on MetalFromFinland.com awhile back.. Very entertaining band and I enjoy listening to them.. Although it seems the vocal tones get a bit repetitive after awhile.... and their fiddle players scares me.... he's spooky lookin.

Oh, geez, I got "Tales Along This Road" for my birthday last year and forgot to post about it!

In order to avoid this turning into an album review, I will just pick out my favorite songs.

I like "Spring Dance" and "Under the Sun" because they're fun to dance to. Yes, I'm a metalhead and I enjoy dancing like an idiot. In addition, "Spring Dance" seems flexible as far as what one can do while listening to the song goes. This song has room for both dancing and headbanging!

I like "Korpiklaani" because it's one of the heaviest tracks on the album and has a nice, steady beat to headbang to. Besides, who doesn't love songs in languages other than English?

Peter (doclindgren) graciously sent me an extra copy of this one and I put it in for the first time last night. I'd heard about them before, but never got around to checking them out. I'm now a fan! "Happy Little Boozer" made me long for the Renaissance Festival. I'll have to listen to it again when I'm not inebriated, but I really liked this album. Korpiklaani and Finntroll are gonna be my new drinking buddies.

The new one is 2 songs, 20 minutes each.
People that downloaded it are raving about it. They are saying it's one of the bands best. I'm indeed looking forward to it!

Hehe, could be. "Voimasta ja Kunniasta" is probably the best album to start with as it has still plenty of the old stuff in it and it prepares you to what's gonna come. Plus the songs on that album aren't [i]that[/i] long... only something like, 8 minutes in average. Can't wait for the new one.

Moonsorrow is awesome but they are not for people new to the genre. 10+ minute songs that are more about the melody and atmosphere than complicated structures can be hard for some to sit through.

I loooove Thyrfing. Home Again has one of the greatest melodies ever.

Be sure to check out Moonsorrow, who are probably the best of the genre in Finland. Epic stuff.

I do prefer Sweden's Thyrfing over the rest though (or Ireland's Primordial if one can count them to be part of the genre).

Because of this thread, I have been exposed to a whole new genre of which I had no idea existed. This is incredible! I spent my entire Wednesday evening researching Karpiklaani and several other Finnish Folk bands. I discovered FinnTroll and although the lyrics are Swedish, I really liked what I heard. :w00t:

Especially if it's their own band that's on stage :P

Anyway. Not sure if the actual music improved because of the move, but at least the going on front of the stage got rougher and harder, resulting a better show overall.

It's pretty funny that once the guy left the stage the band got better. Coincidence?

Still, from a fans standpoint it is always cool to see another musician in the pit, or even outside the pit, enjoying a show.

Somehow I've never connected with the band on album, but in live situations they're pure gold. I especially remember a gig a few years back in a small smokey bar where one of the guitarists was too drunk to play. Retired himself after a handful of songs. Oddly enough, this pretty much elevated their performance as the guy returned to the 'moshpit' in front of the stage to liven up the audience. Good times.

Agreed, I prefer the previous album as well. That one is going to be hard to surpass.

The first track on the album is entitled "Happy Little Boozer", so I would say that is a good sign.
