WOW! I can't stop listening to this new CD! IT'S AMAZING! True HEAVY METAL! It's by far their best CD to date. Black Candles and Draw Down The Moon are awesome songs, but Dying Eyes is quite possibly the best song on the disc. Great vocals, heavy bass work and scorching guitar work make this CD a must have for anyone that's into metal. Keep up the great work guys, and don't forget to stop back in New Jersey the next time you tour, and hopefully, you'll be headlining so that you can play more tunes than on the Di'Anno tour. Rock on!

Hey guys, so sorry for the huge gap in time between postings. I'm pretty much the sole web responder in the band and between IcarusWitch.com, the myspace page traditional interviews & generally steering the Witch into new waters, time flies by faster than you'd think.

Generally speaking, we've had some great shows this year, culminating with last week's Alehorn Of Power festival performance in Chicago. But now we're taking a break from the road for a few months to focus on writing & demoing the next album. We're about 7 songs into it (in various stages of creation) but still have miles to go to ensure we've topped Songs For The Lost, an album still new to many & still moving along on it's own momentum in the metal underground.

In the meantime, look for our version of "The Ripper" on HELL BENT FOREVER - A TRIBUTE TO JUDAS PRIEST which will come out on Deadline Music in September.

Speaking of Priest, got a chance to hang out with the band as well as the Sabbath guys last night here in Pittsburgh. What an amazing show. If this package has yet to come to your town, no excuses...GO SEE IT! I've seen Sabbath & Dio more times than I can recall over the ages & last night was by far the best.

According to CMJ charts, Songs For The Lost was the 4th most added album to the Loud Rock radio stations in the U.S. with 88 new stations picking up. FMQB has the album as #6 most added with another 48 stations adding the record.

I am from Witchburg, PA. We need to get Icarus Witch to do some more shows back here in PA. The new CD rocks!!! As does the old stuff. Where in the hell can we get more memorabilia of the band? The original website doesn't have any listing of an online shop for shirts, stickers, cd's ect....?

Anyhow, we need to get their asses back around here rocking out. I really really wanna see them play a State College, PA show. Even though I'm from the hometown. I think it would be a great way for the younger crowd. I know the Saloon up there would be a awesome place with its dungeon like downstairs.

Catching up

Hey everyone. I just realized how long it's been since I posted on here & wanted to catch everyone up on a few things. First of all, thanks for keeping the forum going, it made me feel real good to pop back on & read everyone's comments & observations.

SFTL has been out a couple weeks now & the early press has been super positive. Everything seems unanimous that it's better than the last album & what more can you ask for as an artist, then to keep improving.

We've played a series of shows recently including stops in Chicago, Raleigh, Erie, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Cleveland & more. The results have varied depending on which city we're in & how well the promoters do their part as well. The one thing that remains consistent is that we bring the rock every time & have a hell of a time every show. If 50 people show up, they're going to get the same respect as if 500 show up. A longer, consistent tour will likely happen in the spring. We're going to head south & west with California as the end destination, then back to the east coast again.

In the meantime, we're just getting into the thick of the publicity, radio & other promotional things that go along with releasing a new album. The bulk of the radio will go out next week I believe so we should see some chart action by late October. We filmed our CD release show and will eventually piece together the footage for possible DVD, extras and/or at least some current YouTube fodder. Jim Pitulski from Inside Out Music was in charge of the video & we thank him for his efforts.

Songs For The Lost comes out in Europe in October, so to our foreign friends, look for your version to hit very soon. Slightly different artwork will set it apart on the shelves. Enrico at Cruz Del Sur in Italy has been a joy to work with. Not just a smart businessman, but a true metalhead to boot. Ciao brother.

Bare from everyone's favorite...LivingForMetal.com deserves the ultimate gratitude for designing not only this new forum, but the entire new IcarusWitch.com environment. He's waiting on me to deliver the rest of the info to finish up the rest (store, press, etc.) It's a very time consuming process & even though he's doing the actual computer work, I haven't had enough time to put the into in his hands. Also we ran out of merch on the road & are redesigning & making all new merch, new shirts (very evil & lovely), new stickers, probably do some hats & hoodies for the fall too, budget depending. Of course everyone will know as soon as we get it all together. We're also working on new songs for the next album & have bits & pieces of about 7 new songs. VERY early phases, but playing so much has been inspiring & while we're real proud of the music we've already produced, by the time it gets to your ears, it's old to us. So we're keeping it fresh & expanding our horizons a bit while keeping the creative juices flowing so we don't make you all wait another 2 years between albums this time.

Hey guys, I was planning to make the announcement here first, but since Blabbermouth spilled the beans prematurely (and incorectly on a few accounts regarding our label) I figured I'd give you our official press release regarding Joe Lynn Turner, the labels releasing the new album, and more SFTL scoop:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

JOE LYNN TURNER is our guest of honor on the new album, singing along with Matthew on the track, "Mirror Mirror" a High & Dry era Def Leppard rocker. This is a huge thrill for us, as Joe is one of the few singers everyone in the group loves. His multi-platinum work with RAINBOW is legendary. His recordings with YNGWIE MALMSTEEN & DEEP PURPLE are among the best those artists have put out. Now to have the "Spotlight Kid," JLT himself on record with Icarus Witch is the best thing this band has ever done and will open the flood gate for many new fans while pleasing the Icarus Witch faithful.

Speaking of Deep Purple...Icarus Witch has a couple new record contracts, the major one involves a label that has released albums from Deep Purple, Motorhead, Cinderella, Venom & most recently became the exclusive North American home for the red hot 69 Eyes catalog!

We've signed a deal to release Songs For The Lost on Los Angeles based Cleopatra Records. The first full length, Capture The Magic sold very well through Magick Records, which was a smaller sub label imprint of the Cleopatra Label Group. The success of that debut earned the respect of president/CEO, Brian Perera who decided to move the Witch up to priority status on the flagship label, Cleopatra & gave the band a dubious record release date...September 11.

What does this promotion mean for the band? This remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, we will be getting wider distribution this time around as Cleopatra recently joined forces with New York based KOCH Distribution, a major player in the industry.

Songs For The Lost will be released simultaneously in Europe through Cruz Del Sur Music, a fantastic label based in Rome, Italy & home to true metal heroes like Hammers Of Misfortune, Slough Feg, Pharaoh & our southern brethren, Widow!

We've got more news as well as music & image samples coming soon, but this is enough to digest for now. The forces are aligning in the Icarus Witch circle & the album we are about to unleash is a 10 song collection of deep, powerful, melodic music that has changed our world. We are extremely proud of this new level and look forward to sharing with you all very soon.

Things you use when you're lost.

In keeping with the theme for the album, I've incorporated many images into the artwork that one might associate with being lost (or found). Such as a compass, map, light house, star chart, zodiac, etc. It can pertain to being physically lost, spiritually lost or simply hopelessly in the woods with no hope or desire for being found. Things like GPS tracking or flare guns are super, but may be a bit out of character for the style. I'm trying to think of how early navigators may have charted a course for adventures across an unknown sea to avoid falling off the edge of the world.

Not having seen the reality show "Lost" I don't know what they're about but I like the old "Land Of The Lost" complete with Sleestaks & such. (nevermind, weird tangent).

Working on music, art, promotion, etc. non stop for months has nearly exhausted me, so I thought I'd turn to you all for some ideas on imagery. Who knows, although the CD art is done, it may work it's way into the website or promotional campaign to ensue.

DETAILS MY FRIENDS!!

News with the Cthulhu.... I'm about 3 months away from my basic Audio engineering certificate... I'm working on my first recording project right now and things are coming along great.. Then.... I finish the advanced music production course which is about 18 weeks... and .. I go into the world... I have a band I'm working with now that I have the utmost faith in and I just got this feeling that if me and them work together.. we're both going to make it somewhere. I'm going to produce a couple of their songs here in a week or two and see how that goes. WISH ME LUCK!

Warryor is doing their first album right now. First album and it's going to have 11 songs of rock n' roll goodness... I wish they'd put up some of the new songs for people to hear but you know how it is... They can't let everyone hear the shit before it's put on CD because that kinda defeats the purpose.. Haha. The album is going to be released sometime near the end of this month I believe.

I have become really good friends with these guys over the last 6 months or so and they are some of the best people anyone could ever want to meet or play with... I drove nearly 8 hours to see them in their home town.. They were nice enough to even let me spend the night with them in their own house.. I could go on all night about how great they are but most people figure that out 5 minutes after meeting the guys.

I'm sure if you asked them to play a show they would. They really need the publicity boost from some of the bigger bands and they deserve it. There was a show lined up in Vegas over the summer with the Iron Maidens but they were asking INSANE amounts of money to play.... Pay-to-Play is crap, especially when you don't have all that much money to begin with.

Haven't been on the boards in awhile... New e-mail and computer and a lot of garbage so I completely forgot about em until today while I was sifting through my old hard drive and went through bookmarks..

Just checkin up on the Witch and the boards in general... I'm loaded down with work and school... Good thing is I only have about 6 months left until I get my basic certificate in audio engineering.. :D

Also wanted to add for Jason. I told you I had checked out Aguilar awhile back and what was it.. month and a half or so I finally got my rig in. I'm making payments on it since it wasn't all that cheap you know.. but I'm loving it. I would have gotten the DB 750 but couldn't go that high in price.. but the AG 500 is working really well so far... and I'm still lovin my ZZB. Those basses can really be something when it comes to rock.

One of my camp classes involves Adobe Photoshop. These are two of my projects. One of them was a magazine cover. One of them was an advertisement. They're both ready for the newsstands, according to my teacher and all the other kids in my photoshop class.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM AND I LOVE THE MOVIE EVEN MORE!!! My mom's getting all pissy with me because I've watched is six times in four days. Pshaw. What does she know?

My favorite part of the movie is the champagne scene, because I usually feel as crazy as Mrs. Walker does in that one. A lot of mental torture from a bad past. The music's jsut incredible. But Tina Turner should've stayed truer to the original form of the song.

I'm the only person I know who can make remote sense of Tommy. I can really relate to it. I love it. It makes perfect sense to me. Which probably means I'm insane...

After having heard Icarus Witch both in recording and, fortunately, live, I'm extremely impressed by the skill of all of the musicians in the band.

However, being a singer myself, Matthew's the one who's caught my ear most impressively. I was wondering what type of training he's had; how long he's studied voice, what kind of classical singing he's done, and so forth.

Well I'm getting ready to start college here next semester.. and for the last 2 years I've been thinking what exactly I wanted to do with my life... I had my run-in with the Military.. Got to thinking about it, that just wasn't who I was... Thought about computers, I love computers.. but as much as I love them.. that wasn't enough for me.

Music is where it's always been at with me.. computers come in second.. I love being a musician and I love playing bass.. which is something I never plan on leaving.. but hey, the chances of that working out by itself.. Not that great.. I got pre-enrolled and all of that a few weeks back and I'm getting ready to really work everything out....

I'm going to be a recording engineer... :) Combine my love with electronics and computers with my love for music.. I used to run the soundboard back in High School when our band did little live recordings in the band hall.. I loved it.. I still play with my recording software at home and can't ever get enough with tweaking this and that.. So I think this just might work for me... I've been confused for so long.

My family is telling me I'm a moron.. they always have.. "Music isn't going to get you anywhere.." Well, we'll see and those bastards can all watch me make a goddamn career out of it! :hehe:

ICARUS WITCH ADDS FUNERAL DIRECTOR TO BAND!

OK, so he's not officially a funeral director yet, and that's partially our fault. Here's why:

The Witch is once again returning to a dual guitar lineup with the addition of dynamic shredder, Quinn Lukas! The boys had been in talks with the young axe master for some time and were even more interested after Matthew & I caught a him live in Erie, PA last summer & saw what he was capable of. The only thing holding them back from hiring him on the spot was that, at the time, he was in the middle of mortuary college to become a funeral director. Figuring a rocking opportunity like this might not knock a 3rd time but that people will always die & need morticians, the 2nd call the band put into Quinn resulted in his decision to put his final year of ghoul school on hold and join the rising Witch camp on their current road to metal glory.

With several east coast concerts in support of Capture The Magic under their belt, the band now knows that they can command a stage as a 4 piece. However, in attempt to bring the ultimate heavy metal show to the fans, they unanimously decided it was time to add a 2nd weapon to the already deadly guitar attack.

With Quinn onboard, expect more harmonies, thicker rhythms under trade off guitar leads and an increase in energy. This kid's a monster with killer chops, an explosive stage presence and a classic metal soul far beyond his 25 years. With Quinn and Fish on the same stage, we're looking to give Maiden, Priest & Ryche a run for their twin lead money. Also, with his education if someone dies on the road, he'll know what to do with the body!

Yeah... the Witch seriously needs to contact these guys.. I talked with them for like 3 hours after the show.. Couldn't ask for cooler people.... and their sound is just.. mmm mm good. Their bassist was having Wife-Unit problems though so the singer had to take over the bass and sing... he didn't really get to let loose but it was still a great show..

Only thing was... I WAS THE ONLY GUY JUMPING AROUND AND BANGING MY HEAD!!

Vocals, lyrics, and their importance.

Well on and off I have heard people talking about the importance or lack of importance for vocals and lyrics in a band/song. It's my strong opinion that lyrics and vocals are just as much a part of a song as the instruments.

I want to know what you all think. Just how important are lyrics and vocals? Do they make or break the band, or are they just something added for pizaz... and most of all, what do the members of the Witch think and what is your approach to writing a good and well thought-out song? :laugh:

Okay, here's the deal

I am currently writing the script for a movie, and am looking for music to use as part of the movie.
I am a big fan of Icarus Witch, and would love to use either Curse Of The Ice Maiden or one of the tracks off CtM in the movie. However, I wouldn't want to use it without permission - it is an independant movie, but its precise fate commercially (ie whether it will be sold or distributed freely) is very much in the air.

The movie is a zombie movie, and a sort of pet project of mine - it is going to be filmed and produced on a shoe-string/non-existent budget, so I'm hoping to avoid using music that would require any kind of financial obligations.

So, would it be possible to use one of these songs? Curse Of The Ice Maiden would be ideal, but if this is not possible then I would happily use one of the tracks off the album.

Just thought I'd let everyone know I got my guitar today.

I am VERY impressed... Besides being in perfect condition for its age.. The pickups are very clean and quiet, they have an awesome range. The seller put new Rotosound nickel rounds on it, which I'm actually enjoying them... I may just switch over, the sound seems a bit hardier compared to the stainless steel.

The over-all feel of the guitar is great but it looks like I'm going to have to find a longer strap so it'll fit a little lower on my waist like I want it to.. Which that's not a problem.. After reading reviews and having people call this a 'cheap 80's guitar.' Well the 80's must have had a different idea for cheap because this thing is really well built... The neck is also quite comfortable and the enamel covering on it has a nicer feel to me than varnished wood.

I can't thank you enough Jason for allowing me to discover these things. Rock on man.

Bass Equipment Question

I'm going to attempt to put together a decent stage setup and I'm trying to look at equipment. I'm not all that savy with amplifiers as all of mine have been combos so far. I'm looking for a hardcore setup with a cab of like 4x12's..Which that's not problem... My question being as far as amplifiers go.

I'm trying to go for a semi-vintage tube amp sound.. I refuse to use effects processors and such to reach my sound. (In my musical world, using processor is a cheap and easy way to sound like everyone else)

The basics here being..

What kind of amplifier would I need?
Do I need a preamp?
I'm looking to push some high wattage.. 800+
My budget is around $4000 (Preferably only want to spend $3000-3200)
It needs to be versatile. I have a pedalboard with about 7-8 different pedals/extras including OD, Distortion, Wah, Pedal-controlled volume, a tuner, chorus, and a 12-band EQ.

If anyone could gimme some links to a page that might be able to help me out. Now that I'm about to have some money I want to get the best bang for my buck and I don't want to go out small.... This summer I'm going to attempt to get back in the band scene and next fall I'll be playing in my college's Jazz band again.. so I don't wanna skimp out...

Not really Icarus Witch related.. But I'm constantly harping about Therion.. and I just have a feeling all of you Witch fans might really dig this as much as I do..

This is like.. my #1 band... So enjoy. The song is titled the "Birth of Venus Illegitima." The video is off of a DVD they put out from a show in Poland back in '98. YouTube has a bunch of the vids up... It's a pretty good concert although some of the songs are better on actual album since it's not easy to get a 270 piece orchestra on a show like that.. so they had to improvise and take out some parts.. (which on songs like Nightside of Eden really make me cry..) But it's still REALLY good stuff.
