Tim and Barlow are both amazing vocalists so I'm not going to join in this debate. This is great news though!! :D

I disagree 75%.

Tim schools Matt on the range and depth. Passion is a matter of choice and I think both have their merrits.

It doesn't matter whether or not he was in Priest or Iced Earth. If anything, it only makes things more difficult for him. He is one of the better vocalists in the metal scene, yet many metalheads always bash him, and won't really bother with the music he puts out, regardless of how good it may or may not be.
That may have been bad judgement on his part by trying to replace vocalists that were part of both band's signature sound, but it still won't help him.

He was definitely mistreated. Jon was constantly talking down on his songwriting capabilities to the press (kind of hypocritical as far as I'm concerned) and acting like it was Tim's privilege to be in Iced Earth. Keeping him on long enough to take care of any tours, or to finish the recording, doesn't mean that he wasn't mistreated. It just means that there was some small level of professional courtesy.

Go on Blabbermouth and look up some of the interviews they posted from Jon and Tim. You can also look some up on Google

I see your point but the I read it Jon comes out looking like a guy who was never satisfied with the singer [b]he [/b]chose to replace Barlow, and let it be known to the world.

This is great news. Matt definitley has more range, depth, and passion than Tim. As for Tim being "mistreated" I don't see it. John waited until they were done with schedueled tour dates (if he had this in mind before they finished), they had nothing else planned for 07. So, now '08 will begin with Matt on the new IE and Pyramaze. From what I understand Tim has a new Beyond Fear and Wintersbane in the works for '08. So, it's not like Tim was just left flat on his ass mid-tour.

Given what I've know about Schafer and Owens. It probably was a mutual "fuck you." Schafer god tired of everyone lamenting the departure of Barlow and probably started riding Owens, especialy when it was annouced that Barlow was going to sing for another power metal band. Owens probably said: "You know, I've got another band already, you take 6 years to write a song and you've already paid me for the tour and the SW albums. Bye!"

But we'll see. I'm sure Owens will say something soon.

In the end Schafer always looks like an ass: He can't keep a single band member regardless of termination or resignation.

Well, while Jon did often praise Tim as a vocalist, he berated him as a songwriter on a regular basis (to the press mind you), to the point where Tim even had to defend himself in interviews.
Regardless of whether or not Tim is a good songwriter, Jon should have been more diplomatic, considering that he was talking about a member of his band. Whether Tim left, or was kicked out, he wasn't treated in a professional manner.

I'm excited. Though Ripper did a great job with the last IE album, I've always been more of a Barlow fan.

Believe it or not but I'm kind of pissed about it. Plus it is a rather rude way to dismiss Owens.

Oh well, everyone knows Schafer is an asshole from Elpaso anyway. I just hope SW2 doesn't blow. I love the hell out of SW1.

I'm happy about it.
Not because I really care about this band so much. In fact, my favorite work from Iced Earth was the Gettysburg trilogy. But, Jon did not treat Tim well lately, which was really unfair. Especially considering his capabilities as a vocalist. He deserves better than working with someone like Jon

I, for one, am not really happy about this. I think that Owens is a much better vocalist and with SW1, gave IE much needed depth in the vocal department. Plus this will have a HUGE impact on SW2. Meh.
