oh, i listened to their latest album few weeks ago, and i didn't like it. yeah, sure my taste have chaged a bit, but i still prefer their The Divine Wings Of Tragedy and V - The New Mythology Suite better then this release. they haven't made anything new, just the same old style and same old songs.. don't know why, but i hoped it will have different soud then it has now.. their previous albums had more catchy songs then Paradise Lost has. it's not a bad album, but something is missing here, but don't know what.. maybe it isn't as epic and as inspired as their previous work, don't know.. but something is wrong, something is missing here.

p.s. oh my, my english isn't as good to describe my feelings about this album, but it's a disappointment, and i'm a bit drunk.. daamn!

Me! Picked it up this weekend. The first copy I bought was missing the disc, so I had to go back and get another.

First of all, let me say that this album is much heavier than their previous efforts. At the same time, though, there are still a lot of truly epic and symphonic parts. I'll be listening to it more throughout the week and I'll try and remember to post when I discover something else worth writing about. :)

Divine wings has so many great tunes.
The Pharoah, The witching hour And Out of the ashes.. hm
tough toss up.
But Id go with Divine. Odyssey does have Wicked.. great tune !!

I should get some more Symphony X albums, but I still have to allocate funds to CDs. I'll have to check The End Records, since I plan on ordering from them soon.

They do have some power elements, but it's still prog for the most part. Like 5 parts prog, 1 part power. Like a progressive metal martini, which coincidentially, is the perfect drink to enjoy while listening to Symphony X

I beg to differ...in my opinion, nothing beats Divine Wings (the song). And I also happen to think there's quite a bit of power metal in their sound. So na na na boo boo! :P

The Odyssey is one of the best songs I've ever heard, so I would say that The Odyssey > Everything else from them

By the way, this thread should be moved to the progressive forum. This band has very little power metal in their sound

BLASPHEMY! You really should give them a chance. I know how much you like Suspyre, and SymX would be right up your alley. V is definitely better than The Odyssey, but they're both good.

To be completely honest I don't listen to them all that much. I have 2 albums, V and The Odyssey, but neither get a whole lot of play time. I always say I will give them a better listen but I never get around to it. Maybe someday.

Hopefully I'll be seeing these guys for the second time this summer. What do you think of the band? I think they're virtually unparalleled as far as musicianship and composition go. Michael Romeo is a god.

What's your favorite Symphony X album? Mine is easily V, with Divine Wings of Tragedy falling in behind.
