Good points... There is a pretty strong possibility that within the next year I will start travelling for my job... So, I'm leaning towards a laptop (even though they are more expensive and slower).

Can you explain that "freezer" thing to me??? The drive is starting to make whiny noises and the disk access is very slow. I've run diagnostics on the drive and they all show NO errors, but the diag takes forever.

first off, to fix your harddrive, stick it in the freezer with a ziplock bag for a week or so, secondly, desktop or laptop is all about preferences... if your a student and you need protability, laptops your obvious choise (or if your to cheap for internet and sit in someone's backyard to feed off their WiFi) but if its for inhome use, I would go desktop all the way, go for a custom built, more bang for your buss, on average 1700$ laptop = 1025$ desktop.. plus, your desktop is always upgradable

Well... I'm currently using laptops..

HP/Compaq NX7000 business notebook

Pentium M @ 1.6Ghz
1.5GB RAM
60GB HDD
17" Screen
all the bells and whistles..

BUT... The hard drive (as I type this) is biting the shitter.. making crappy sounds and is accessing data VERY slowly. This is the 2nd HDD to die in this machine within a year... I'm thinking of buying a new one.

BUT, I can't decide to do the laptop thing again... or go with a desktop.. Your opinion?

I would like to say though that the front page is not the way I wanted this site to look. My father took over website maintanace a couple months ago when he retired and you can not tell a 65+ year old computer geek how to do things on a computer! Even if they had no experience with maintaining a website. LOL! The site has really changed since he took over. (I don't mind at all, less work for me!)

I went to school for database management (Oracle) but the degree is worthless. Never really got to use anything I learned, which was minimal. Most of everything I learned was on the job learning. SQL queries, mostly, but some Microsoft Access database creation. That was almost 2 years ago and in my current position I hardly do anything with SQL and absolutely zero with Access. I hate it. I actully was decent with what I knew and I thought that was why I was hired. But alas, I keep getting shafted and given crap assignments.

Anyway, enough whining. If anybody needs assistance with Oracle SQL I still know a little bit. But then again, most people are more knowledgable than me so I might be the one asking for help. :D

Here is a little history about good ole 'Bare' ;)

1. I went to college for Electronics / Robotics & Instrumentation
2. Started learning some programming languages along the way
3. Worked Tech Support at Gateway (right out of college)
4. Eventually started working for a software company called SAP & travelled the United States for 2 years as a Technical Consultant... This was my dream job..
5. Now I'm the Corporate IT Director for a Pharmacutical Sales and Distribution company... pretty fun stuff (servers, large databases, etc...)
6. I've been thinking about the LivingForMetal.com concept for years. I started working on it seriously about 6 months ago. It has been truly live for about 3 weeks (with the Online Store).. This project is very gratifying to me & I look forward to what it brings in the upcoming years...

And all the while.. I was listening to Metal!!! ;)

So, in other words... I love discussing techncial stuff.. So, make as many topics in here as you want... and I'll help with any that I can...
