So I am convinced and fully aware that western digital is way moreso the better choice . So if I were you Voodoo i'd stick to Western digital. Warranty is longer and the life expectancy of the drive is far better .I am also finding out that the bigger the drive the more problems You run into (on an External that is )

I'd keep it at 100 gigs ..just to be safe. Someolder PC's don't read the bigger drives .They see them and they show the capacity of the drive .BUT if you fill the drive past a certain read point for the PC ..it will crash on u ..The data will "write over " (i believe that is the word ..bare ??) and the Hard drive will have to be reformatted .

I learned that the hard way ..LOL. when i 1st got my 200 gig MAXTOR ..which didn't last anyway...lol.

I am looking into these porty's now.MY IT guy say's they are very good.

http://www.smartdisk.com/eWeb/smartdiskus/www/staticpages/FireLitePortHDD.asp

Check em out Bare , Voodoo

and tell me what u guys think??[/quote]
I know the feeling all too well man. I ran into the same problem the other day. I turned on my computer and come to find out the hard drive had crashed, so I had to reformat it. I just checked and the drive I have on my computer is a Maxtor.

RE: EXTERNAL NIGHTMARE !!!!

its cheaper to buy a HD and make your own switch to USB

RE: EXTERNAL NIGHTMARE !!!!

The 80 gig purchased direct is $230 and only $180 at Best Buy .com. Gonna have to do some more research on this subject.

Thanks, DZ. And so I get my HD installed .. hehehe .. a whopping 32o gigs ! YAY .. and my pc reads the whole drive so just to make sure I copy all my Vids ands games over .. and i keep copying till i fill the whole drive .. Which it does ..All with 3 gigs of free space. Well, then i delete what i copied and move some of my mp3's --my ROCK collection ..that's on my 2oo gig external.

AND that takes me all of 1 night .. so it finally completes the move and i shut down to Crash .Next day (sunday) I get ready to turn on my PC and ...what do i notice ... my external won't open the drives.. after numerous attempts, unplugging, reboooting and Then some ill mannered curse words .(which still did no good) I just unplugged it. Well...come MOnday morning I wake up grab my external and come to work... So my hopes of getting it to work on my work PC are soon CRUSHED ..as it just won't happen..

And after this long boring story ... i get to the MAIN concern . The remainder of stuff on this external was my METAL mp3's almost 100 gigs worth ..
