Got the router (Netgear WPN824).

Correct me if I am wrong, and I actually feel stupid for needing help, but the cable connects to the modem then connects to the router than on to the PC.

Right?

Why the hell am I not able to connect? A Toshiba Satellite T2330. Nothing fancy at all. Only $449 on sale at Best Buy this week. A friend has a wireless router he will give me (along with an external hard drive).
It's a Pentium dual core with a 120 gb hard drive, 1 gig of memory expandable to 2. It's bare bones in that no Office product is installed but I will get that later. For now it's just for basic surfing and storage stuff.

my new baby

Flash drive help

I have a couple of large capacity flash drives that I store and transport music on (to and from work mostly) and one of them is no failing to open up when I plug it in to the USB. My wife is a moderator on another message board. A few weeks ago, before we left for vacation, she all of a sudden could not access the message board. I tried everything I could think of to solve the problem (firewall, anti-virus, all kinds of settings, ports, etc) but nothing worked. She still could not get to the page. What was actually happening was that the page would begin to load, then a blank screen would appear, and at the bottom left the word "done" showed up. Now, if she received a private message, with a notification in her email, she could get to private messages and all the controls with no problems using the link in the email. She could navigate through all that stuff, even access buddy groups and friends accounts, and send a new PM. At that time she was not the only user having issues, either. The site upgraded the server and all was well for a few weeks. Then yesterday the same thing happened, and she cannot get on to the site. I tried using both Firefox and IE, and neither worked at home. I can get on here at work, and my sister-in-law can get in. And we both have the same ISP.

What the hell is going on? What other settings on my computer could be blocking access to this one website, and only when trying to get to the main message board? She could access it in the morning but not yesterday evening. Nothing has changed since then, that I am aware of. This is driving me INSANE!!!!

The site's url is http://www.twinstuff.com/.

Apples iPhone

Anyone have one?

Not me. Cost of communication between the two campuses has become a major issue. I am now researching VoIP solutions. Our current system is Mitel (Superset 4025, to be specific) and Mitel offers VoIP, but after meeting with the sales rep, I feel that in the end we would get screwed because of all the plug-ins you have to buy to have this capability. I think it might be cheaper to go with a whole new system. So, has anyone had any experience with a Mitel upgrade to VoIP? I am also evaluating Cisco VoIP solutions.

Any feedback, personal experiences, suggestions, or heresy is appreciated. :)

A+ Certification

If anyone is wanting a start into the tech world, I have made ISOs of the Test Out discs for CompTIA's A+ certification. And so I get my HD installed .. hehehe .. a whopping 32o gigs ! YAY .. and my pc reads the whole drive so just to make sure I copy all my Vids ands games over .. and i keep copying till i fill the whole drive .. Which it does ..All with 3 gigs of free space. Well, then i delete what i copied and move some of my mp3's --my ROCK collection ..that's on my 2oo gig external.

AND that takes me all of 1 night .. so it finally completes the move and i shut down to Crash .Next day (sunday) I get ready to turn on my PC and ...what do i notice ... my external won't open the drives.. after numerous attempts, unplugging, reboooting and Then some ill mannered curse words .(which still did no good) I just unplugged it. Well...come MOnday morning I wake up grab my external and come to work... So my hopes of getting it to work on my work PC are soon CRUSHED ..as it just won't happen..

And after this long boring story ... i get to the MAIN concern . The remainder of stuff on this external was my METAL mp3's almost 100 gigs worth ..

Possible New Laptop Config

I'm looking at buying the following laptop:

HP DV8000T

Windows XP Pro
Intel Core Duo processor @ 1.83Ghz
17" WSXGA Brightview display (1680x1050)
256MB NVidia GeForce 7400 video card
2GB DDR2 SDRAM
100GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Disk
DVD+/-RW/R CD-RW drive with Double Layer
Intel Pro Wireless 3945 abg
Bluetooth
6 in 1 Media Reader

This is a big laptop (17") and weighs in at about 8lbs.

Thoughts?
Computing & Technical Forum

Besides being a metalhead, I am also an extreme computer tech geek dude..
