Voodoo... I knew that Communic was going to be a highlight for me... However: I never in my right mind would have imagined that Pagan's Mind is so fucking good!!!! I will be getting their albums...

P.S. During the All Start Jam on Saturday night... Pagan's Mind played all the songs & the singers just switched...

I was just thinking that next year's lineup seems to be the weakest yet. It's alright, but nothing that would warrant another trip to Atlanta—at least not yet. The headliners have still yet to be announced, so maybe they'll surprise me. I'm hoping for Symphony X and Evergrey (although I doubt either of them will play again). :(

For this one, I'm sure a lot of people do. I've seen the partial lineup for next years event and although it does not look as strong as this years (aside from Spheric Universe Experience) going just for the the spectacle of it would be money well spent. Plus it really seems like the bands are highly accessible and very down to earth.

Stay at the super 8 on Peachtree St.

The beds are comfy, decent room (how i got a smoking room is beyond me but a little fabreeze and i was ok), and toilets with a turbo. Holy animal mother, it was like instant hurricane in the bowl. The rooms were very clean (and cleaned well!). I had no complaints from my 2nd stay there. I'm sure all hotels have beds and pillows. I wouldn't stay in a shithole, so I don't really worry about how sanitary it is.

But too many hotels have these really weak, low flow toilets. It's completely unacceptable, and quite frankly, a total rip off

I think this is hilarious since really the only thing I look for when hotel searching is whether or not they have beds with pillows and stuff. I'm so not picky at all, which is also amusing, because I work for the health department and we inspect hotels. As long as there isn't poop on the walls, I'll probably sleep there.

A powerful toilet is definitely the most important amenity for when I look into hotels.

I always look at pictures of the bathroom, to get a good idea of what kind of toilet they offer, and it always plays a huge role in whether or not I will return to that particular hotel

Well, I think some of the bands were staying in the same hotels as the fans, yes. But people were staying all over the place. There were a couple hotels within walking distance of the venue and the majority of the ProgPower "veterans," if you will, were staying in those places. And Ralf Scheepers too. :D

I'm sure there were probably some who shared rooms with people who were somewhat unknown to them. I, for one, shared a room with Peter (doc) and our friend Scott, so that was interesting. I don't mind sharing rooms with anybody (so long as they don't try to grope me in the middle of the night, but this rule doesn't apply to Gus). But I'm sure you could have gotten a room on your own in one of the hotels a little farther away. The two near the venue, to my understanding, were totally booked. You have to book those rooms far in advance and I hear that the hotel just down the street from the venue (The Granada) is going to be torn down and rebuilt as something more expensive next year. A lot of people were bummed about that.

The booze was supplied by anybody who could find a liquor store. :P Some people knew where to get it and others didn't; we were some of the ones who didn't. I do believe there was in fact wine available at the venue because some drunken photo-taking chick spilled it on me while walking into the photo pit for one set and it smelled like shit for about five minutes, or at least until all I could smell after that was sweaty prog-man hair whipping around in my face. Bitch.

The toilets at The Granada and TownePlace Suites were able to handle vomit...this I know for a fact. I'm assuming Charmin was also eagerly accepted into their pipes.

The highlights for me at ProgPower were definitely Sonata Arctica and After Forever, with Communic and Redemption providing performances that sound even better than on CD, if that was ever possible. Cellador was also very good and they're pretty down to earth guys...at least when they're not passed out like Bill was.

I most definitely forgot all about you telling me they were covering King Diamond until Saturday...then I got excited in the pants. HO-LEE SHIT, that was awesome. You guys should have seen the look on Jessica's face when Welcome Home kicked in: priceless. It was a mixture of "what the fuck?" and "I think just crapped myself." :D

The highlight of the fest for me was definitely Firewind. I absolutely LOVE Allegiance and, you know, that Gus G guy ain't so bad himself. :P They totally killed live and I was jumping around like a little fucking fangirl the whole time. The poor guys behind me got hairlashed once every 10 seconds or so...hopefully they got over it.

Also pretty kickass were Communic and Redemption. I'd seen Redemption once before (read: bus pee incident), but since they were opening for Dream Theater they didn't have the time to play Sapphire live. Once again, HO-LEE SHIT. I actually teared up during that song and lost a little bit of metal street cred accordingly. It was definitely amazing to see that song live. Communic...hmm. What can I say? They fucking RULED. I was obsessed with Waves of Visual Decay for a long time earlier this year, so I was stoked to see them. Played everything I wanted to hear, and top of that, they were awesome dudes to boot!

Fun times were had by all at the afterparties, especially Friday's, when my buddy Scott got so wasted that he horked in the hotel bathroom a few times and passed out against the wall next to Bill from Cellador. Many excellent pictures were taken and no one died, so it was a good night. My favorite quote from that night (Bill, totally wasted): "It is true, I am the shit. I am the greatest thing on the planet. Do I know you? I like you...come sit here with me." Saturday's was also excellent, though there was no booze besides the jungle juice! And of course we couldn't get into any of the rooms, so we hung out on the hotel's outdoor patio! Ernie from Halcyon Way spent a good chunk of the party trying to find a place to go with booze, and he eventually came back and told us Redemption were hanging at another hotel a few blocks away. He and our buddy Guil up and left, only to call later and say there were just sitting in the lobby there drinking water. :D The cops showed up right around then, so we headed back to our hotel. I had a great time regardless...sorry we kept you up so late, Peter. :P

The all star jam rocked. It was better than the little all-singers jam they did last year.

The Cellador guys were very cool, down-to-earth dudes. Bare hit it off with Mike...we got to hear the whole story of how they got signed. Hell, the drummer was only 16 at the time, and his mom had to sign the contract, haha. We also talked about their upcoming tour with King Diamond - that we already have tickets for. :) Good dudes! You would've liked them.

The Communic guys were so very cool. I don't think they realized they had such a big fan base in the States. In fact, Tor said they were surprised by their fans, and weren't really sure what to expect prior to the festival. For the all-star jam, Oddleif did Symphony of Destruction, and for having no rehearsal, he did fabulous.
