Id give Trivium a shot. They arent that original but hey they have a decent live show. And hearing some killer guitar playing is always a good thing.

I would! While they're no doubt good musicians, they're so unoriginal that it's sickening. I've read interviews where they say that their goal is to become the next Metallica. Apparently they're trying to do that by blatantly ripping them off. Just my opinion.

EDIT: I would still check them out if I were you. The instrumental on The Crusade is pretty good.

The two Trivium albums I have heard are very different from eachother.

Ascendancy is pretty basic scream-then-sing metalcore though maybe with a bit better than average guitar work. The Crusade sounds like it's an attempt at a thrash tribute, but a lot of the choruses are pretty poppy. I'm not a huge fan of either album, but I don't totally hate them.

The biggest surprise will come if you get a chance to check out Capharnaum. This is a really bad-ass technical death metal group with one album that the singer/guitarist from Trivium was in previously. I've been trying to find that CD for a reasonable price, but it's out of print.

As much as I hate them, you should still give them a listen. I usually like to hear a little of every band I despise, so that people can't say that I have never heard them.

Well, to be fair, I did give Trivisuck a chance (before they became so big). Hated them in 2003, still hate them now.

That's a good point, it couldn't hurt to just try them once. The library has their second CD and I was thinking if I should even bother checking it out with the negativity they get in reviews and on forums.

Not according to Metalhead87, that's for sure. I would say at least check them out. I think it's good to give every band at least a brief listen before passing judgement. If I had stuck with my gut feeling about Opeth I never would have listened to that band.

I think I was the one who entered the band in the database and at that time I had not heard the debut Ember to Inferno. I must have based it on something I read somewhere.

Anyway, I updated that info so Death is no longer a description. Y'all are right, it just didn't fit.

So, if I were ultra new to Metal, if I'd just discovered it obviously Trivium wouldn't be on the list of bands you'd recommend then.

Put this in the metalcore forum. Trivium is not death or thrash

I think they are terrible. They're just a metalcore band ripping off some thrash riffs. Vocals are terrible, musicianship is nowhere near as good as people make it out to be, songwriting is pretty crappy (aside from ripping off loads of riffs from all sorts of bands) etc etc.

Not sure I would classify Trivium as death, although early on there were "some" elements in their music. To me they are more metalcore/hardcore. Personally, I don't think they deserve as much crap as they get. The most recent CD The Crusade did have some Metallica-ish moments but I would not go so far as to say they ripped them off.

Good band. Nothing spectacular. I like the last 2 CD's, although I don't listen to them much. Drummer is real good. Matt Heafy can be a little arrogant but he's got a decent voice for the music they play. If I were him though I would avoid screaming too much.

I wasn't sure where to put this one and so I went under their album description which has the first two as Death Metal...if you don't feel that Trivium is Death Metal then feel free to move this one. :)

Now on to my question: What is it that most people dislike about Trivium? I've heard them referred to as a Metallica tribute band, a few metal sites I go on for album reviews don't have them rated with an average over 70% (usually below 60% :(). I haven't listened to a Trivium album, but wanted to know what do you dislike (or like) about them.
