The NS material isn't really just confined to black metal. It appears in some folk and pagan metal, as well as some straight folk music, with a large portion being from the Eastern Bloc.

I wasn't talking about why it's called nationalist socialist black metal. I'm just saying that it should be some kind of a sub-genre. Not a full one like folk, nature, or Viking metal, but maybe like a part of pagan metal. Maybe like Germanic pagan metal.

The musicians being racist has little to do with why it is called a sub-genre of black metal. NSBM is a completely different sound and the melodies are very different. Listen to Absurd, Nokturnal Mortem, and old Graveland then listen to old Dimmu Borgir, old Satyricon and old Emperor. They all have the folkish melodies, some have the very folkish clean vocals and instruments, the harsh buzzing guitars, the slower to mid paced sound, and stuff like that but you can clearly hear a big difference in the melodies.

Hmm, good point. Yeah, you're right about the whole sub genre thing, but you can never stop certain types of metal bands wanting to stick out of the rest to further define what they are about. I believe that's probably how they all got their own sub genre.

Yeah, I do understand. It's not fair though. It is black metal, yet it is racist. So it gets its own sub-genre? I just don't like that. Plus BM as a whole is getting a bad rap right now as racist. It would only fuel the fire.

I didn't say interviews, I thought more of a narrative type film with snippets of interviews in it. Kind of like the type of documentaries they make on the History Channel for those weird Biblical ages documentaries.

Fiction or no fiction, anything based on reality should be accurate, I think. That book shouldn't been published if false there were any false claims about all black metalers being racist. I think that any mainstream movie producer would definitely be stupid enough to call Morbid Angel NSBM, I mean come on, do movies based on books or real life ever get anything right? Very rarely, I say, especially if it is shown in theatres, and not an underground film.

What made the book so bad was that Moynihan was racist and thought all the black metallers were too. ALl he finds is that there are just a few of them that are racist, like Varg and the guys from Absurd. SO he tried to make Hellhammer, Samoth, Faust etc seem racist too. It ended up by him changing all the interviews and making shit up which just turned everything into fiction.

By the way, why would anyone call Morbid Angel NSBM?

From what I remember reading, one or two of the guys in the band were more impartial to those ideas. Not against it but not pro it either.

I don't care anyways. Their music is great and they are pretty decent as far as skill and talent goes. Most NSBM has great music but the musicianship is a joke.

Absurd is a great NSBM band too. SImple and raw but very folky and in that Germanic style. Very notorious too. They were featured in Lords Of Chaos

Did you see American History X? Those kind of bands that they were watching at the kegger (when Edward Norton told that leader guy that he's not interested in that bullshit anymore) are called hatecore bands. Hatecore is pretty much hardcore with racist lyrics. Shit music, shit musicianship and their lyrics actually manage to be crappier than the lyrics of bands like Bury Your Dead etc. Anal Cunt might actually be considered hatecore, but they are more like shitty grindcore (Seth Putnam really is racist, but a very funny lyricist!)

I don't think Grand Belial's Key would be considered NSBM anyways. I think it's only a couple of the guys in the band that are actually racists. I don't know for sure though. I don't know much about the band outside of the music.

I think Grand Belial's Key is one of the best USBM bands now. Their hatecore sideproject is terrible, but all of them are. All hatecore is basically shitty musicians screaming out racial slurs.

Generally, I like a few NSBM bands, such as Burzum and Grand Belial's Key. I'm not racist, but it doesn't mean that I can't enjoy good music with racist themes. It's not like I'm gonna become racist because of it, and I hate people who think otherwise. Hell, I'm sure there's some colored metal heads who love Burzum! So NSBM is all fine and good as long as it's not labled with the whole "you listen to thism you're a racist," cos that's just dumb.

I actually really liked Nechrist. Lunar Poetry is really good too. I like Goat Horns, but a lot of it kind of drags on a little for me. It didn't have that hypnotic feeling that Filosofem from Burzum had.

I've heard Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra's The Key To The Gates Of The Apocalypse once before. It was pretty good but I forgot where I found it so I couldn't listen to it again. I cannot really give judgement on it.

Not ran NSBM band, but Summoning are really good. I really enjoy their music even though I'm not into that whole Lord Of The Rings theme.

Yeah, I fucking hate the racist shit they pour out on their website. Their Lunar Poetry album is also incredible. Nechrist is good, not as great as the other two i've mentioned but still worthy of a few spins a week.

Have to love Mercyful Fate and King Diamond fan.

If I had to pick a NSBM album that could be considered actually "classic" i'd go with Nokturnal Mortum's Goat Horns if you don't have it, I highly recommend it.
