When I was younger Dimmu opened the door to many other bands such as Emperor and Immortal, which I listen to relentlessly now.

RE: Dimmu Borgir
Metalhead87 (5/12/2007)
While I do really love Dimmu, they haven't reallybeen black metalfor a decade.

It's not really easy to say who is leading the scene now.
. . . and yet they get more crap than any other band out there today, solely because their one of the few bands with balls to venture musically.

Although they may not be a true norwegian black metal band anymore, they are definatly leading the scene in essence. .

RE: Dimmu Borgir

There isn't really a black metal scene anymore. Their last album, Ruun, is one of their best.

I also think I read that Immortal is touring again, so I'd be anxious to hear another album by them. Sons of Northern Darkness was a lot slicker than their older albums, but I really like that one.

RE: Dimmu Borgir

While I do really love Dimmu, they haven't really been black metal for a decade.

It's not really easy to say who is leading the scene now.

RE: Dimmu Borgir

Sorry about the 'Shagrath thing'... so black metal has disintergrated in recent years..... i am from greece and recently Dimmu Borgir gave an interview to the greek version of Heavy Metal Hammer magazine, in which Silenoz admitted that most of the band members have to look after their family and organise their lives and maybe that is why they delayed releasing their recent cd.... but both Shagrath and Silenoz stated that they are really commited to their job and act like professionals......this month magazine has an interview of Mayhem..... i know them.... i sometimes listen to a deal of their songs.....i can't say i really like them,but..i can 'stand' their music.......which do you think are the leading black metal bands at the moment???:hehe:

RE: Dimmu Borgir

Cradle of Filth, is more of a joke than Dimmu Borgir, but personally I really hate both bands.

RE: Dimmu Borgir

It's Shagrath.

I personally hate Cradle.

RE: Dimmu Borgir

Cradle of Filth gets little love 'round these parts. Same type of shit gets stormed up over the word/classification "Progressive."
Personally, I think it's hard to draw the line between the genres anymore. I mostly just use them to give a general idea of what the music sounds like, but the battles (just for example) about whether something deserves to be called thrash or whether it became shitty metalcore just because Hot Topic sells the shirts can get kind of ridiculous. I will admit that I'm am guilty of this too. I used to like Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage, and then when I started seeing the "mallcore" 14-year-olds with shitty bangs talking about how cool those bands were, I kinda lost interest.

RE: Dimmu Borgir
BJWho2 (4/28/2007)
Dimmu Borgir has to be one of my favorite bands. I've also heard mixed reviews about In Sorte Diaboli (there's another long-ass album title, though not quite as bad as the previous ones). I listened to some of that album last night and thought it sounded quite a bit like Death Cult. I'll probably have a more definite opinion later on this weekend, though, after I've listened to it more.

RE: Dimmu Borgir

A good band, and is growing on me with each listen.
