It's all about Norway, second Finland. If you look at the amount of amazing bands coming from northern europe you'd think that's the only thing they listen to. (pretty much is) Even though I hope to make it big in the musicianship area I'd doubt it'd be anything godly like those who come from Northern Eruopean countries. I have no idea where they get their musical influence/ideas from. but whatever it is, it's amazing.

Any of the Scandinavian countries are true and Bathory, my Black Metal God, is from Sweden, but for me Norway will always be the Capital of Black Metal.

I've just skim-read this entire thread, so please forgive me if I repeat what's already been said.

Obviously, Norway deserves a big mention here, but so does Germany (Secrets Of The Moon), Poland (Devilish Impressions and Crionics) Hungary (Sear Bliss) and England (Thus Defiled). So, basically - I'm torn!

Ackercocke is really good. There are quite a few good UK based bands, but it is certainly not quite the scene it used to be back in the day.

I still say Denmark for Mercyful Fate.

Either way, the UK wins! If it's only [b]BLACK METAL[/b], then it's [b]VENOM[/b] - if it's Metal in general, then it's the bands Steve mentioned, plus quite a few more. The UK's Metal history is second to none. It's just a shame that the last great "new" UK Metal band I heard was [b]CANCER[/b] about 15 years ago...

I went with Sweden, because I really like the "Gothenburg" sound of bands like classic In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, etc. It's just been done to death lately. I also think Meshuggah and Opeth are two of the most creative and original bands out there right now. Hypocrisy has been one of the most consistent bands in the genre. There really isn't an album by them I don't like.

U.S. would've been my second choice based on the Flordia scene that was mentioned, with bands like Death, Atheist, and Cynic, as well as the California scene with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament. A hefty amount of the U.S. bands now are knock-offs of the "Gothenburg" sound or generic Metalcore.

I'm American....But Sons Of Satan is correct.....UK is #1 ..the Mighty Venom come from Newcastele(brown ale..hellyeah!)

also...Iron Maiden...Black Sabbath, Judas Priest ...Venom...Top 4 all time Metal bands...And Andy Sneap the producer/Sabbat guitar player is from there as well.. ;)

I always bought Kerrang! magazines every month, then it came out every week..here in th USA....I always wanted to visit the UK ..visit all the pubs...and buy those UK imports you can't get here...One Day perhaps.

I love the Grimoire interviews, but they are usually somewhat serious with King since they all worship him. You should see how they do some other interviews, it's nothing but insults traded back and forth. My favorite one to read was the one with Ivar from Enslaved. He kept dishing out fat and yo mamma is so fat jokes to Bill Zebub. I was on the floor laughing from that.

Why hate a producer from another country though? I know why. He was a DM producer and Mayhem got their panties in a bunch over US Death Metal. So they went and took a picture of Scott and put a slash through his face in the booklet of "Deathcrush" i'm sure that showed him.....

Scott Burns also helped by having that studio in FL and producing many classic DM albums. I still have no clue as to why Mayhem hate him so much.

You're right, but the CC's climax in the scene was in FL, so it pretty much can count for either.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch, I don't talk to Ian anymore. I just don't want to confront him because that would cause too much unnecessary drama, and I don't want that. But let's save this for outside of the forum. Tampa had it's time, and will always be remembered for that, just like Scandinavia.

Which you have a fetish for! hehe, just kidding. Cannibal Corpse actually is from NY, they only moved to FL around their second album because of the studio they used. They're from Buffalo NY to be exact.

I agree that the height of the Scandinavian BM scene didn't last long enough, just as Tampa FL's DM scene didn't, but how can you say FL wasn't nearly as important, they gave us Cannibal Corpse and Deicide! Unless you meant BM from Tampa.

And along with Kind Diamond being a great musician, he's also one of the funniest, most outspoken guys I've ever seen. I watched an interview with him and one of the Grimoire Girls (from Bil Zebub's production company) and it was histerical, he had so many interesting things to say about everything.

Well originally, King Diamond was just 3 Danish musicians and 2 Swedish (even the guitar player before Andy was Swedish I think), so I consider that band a multi-national band.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with all Scandinavian BM. Norway especially is the stomping grounds for most of the great BM bands (Emperor, Darkthrone, etc)

I don't like to compare countries by their music because good music is good music and I feel that geography has little to do with how well the artist's music is. However, a lot of my favorite bands (Horna, Satanic Warmaster, Sargeist, Behexen, Beherit, and Clandestine Blaze) are from Finland, so I voted for Finland.

i would have to say my favorite is norway. Not just the fact that it started there, but the fact that the amount of black metal and the quality of it is just astounding. Small bands make it big there, and just ebcause thea re from norway they automatically rock. anyways thats what itr hink, let me know what you think!
