It has two songs i enjoy off it. I prefer their first three albums Black Earth, Stigmata and Burning Bridges by a mile.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

I don't think Nonexist broke up, I think they're just going to go on without him but I'm not really sure.
Hearse is great. Very high energy death n roll, a little like The Crown actually.

I know Johan isn't really interested in the whole touring thing, he just wants to make and play music and lead a regular life. He was sort of fired but it was mutual. They gave him an ultimatum that he has to be more active with the band but he didn't really want to. I don't blame him. I'd never want to go on tour, it seems very difficult.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions
Metalhead87 (3/27/2006)
They did use blastbeats on the new album too, but I agree that the albums with Johan were better. I do love the music on Wages and Angela sounded decent on that album, but she has no where near the power or the range of Johan.
They didn't fire him out of the blue though. It was mutual since he didn't really wanna tour anymore so he formed Hearse and Nonexist (which he left). Hearse is an amazing band anyways. Armageddon Mon Amour is an amazing album. Brutal, fast and very melodic.
I stand corrected. I never knew the exact details of the split, I had heard that he was fired but it must have been a rumor. Nonexist was awesome, did they break up? I would've liked to hear another album from them. Never heard Hearse, I'll have to check that out.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

They did use blastbeats on the new album too, but I agree that the albums with Johan were better. The one song I heard off of Doomsday didn't sound very promising. I may sound like I'm being harsh but you have to realize how much SKILL Michael Ammot has that he isn't utilizing. Listen to his work on Carcass "Heartwork," and on Arch Enemy's "Burning Bridges" or "Stigmata". The solos are good on the new albums, but the riffing is watered down and uninspired. In my opinion Angela Gossow is nothing but a gimmick, and it worked. Johann Liiva was a great vocalist in my opinion, and they just fired him out of the blue and got Angela. Her vocals have always sounded abrasive and one dimensional to my ears, but now Arch Enemy is just known as the band with the chick singer.

Just listen to Burning Bridges and you will see why I think this band could be doing so much better. Or check out Stigmata, this one is always overlooked. The songs were MUCH heavier, they actually used some blastbeats back then and the melodies were catchy and stay in your head for days. Now the band opted for commercialism over writing challenging, complex music. That's ok for some but I think I'll pass.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions
Metalhead87 (3/23/2006)
I thought she was sort of cute on Wages, but she looks kinda like a tranny crack whore now, though it could've just been the Nemesis video.
"tranny crack whore"... hillarious.

Yes, I'll move this topic to thrash.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

Shouldn't this be in the thrash forum since Arch Enemy is more thrash than death?

Personally I like Johan's vocals better. He had much more power. I love the music on Wages Of Sin and Doomsday Machine, but I don't like Angela's vocals on the latter.

I thought she was sort of cute on Wages, but she looks kinda like a tranny crack whore now, though it could've just been the Nemesis video.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

nothing better than a chick singer who looks kinda cute..I like her voice as well..although from what I've read..she loses it time to time....

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

Yeah.. However, I do remember loving the aggression of the music. Angela can sing perfectly for this type of music.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

I agree... not as good as the last 2... but her voice is pretty awesome (although a lot of effects were used... in my opinion)

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

Well I have had this album for a while now and listened to it twice. Both times I kind of just forgot it was playing. It started off ok but it just grew old on me really fast. Maybe it is going to be a growing album. I will probably have to give it six more spins. Not as good as there last two, imo.

RE: Arch Enemy : "Doomsday Machine" Opinions

It's good, trust me. I've only had a chance to listen to the first 3 tracks, so I'll post my opinion later.

Please express your thoughts and opinions, in regard to this new Arch Enemy release.

I'll be seeing them at the Aug 7 Ozzfest show, and I've recently read that they are playing the new song 'Nemesis' during their set. I have listened to Nemesis and I like it, so that will be cool... I can't wait...
