Demon Hunter is not Death Metal and they are horrible... and neither is Hatebreed, they suck too... JFAC's "DOOM EP" stuff gets annoying. Their new album is better, straight edge Death Metal!!!

Goatwhore is blackened Death Metal though and used to be pure Black Metal, nevertheless... Goatwhore is AWESOME!!!

My list of favorites is not the same as my list of "most influential" but I think would be my list of personal preference if I had to pick 10:

Death
Atheist
Hypocrisy
Napalm Death
Bloodbath
Coldworker
Anata
Exhumed
Morbid Angel
Sadus

In terms of influence, Malevolent Creation, Suffocation, and Obituary should also get mention. I like the new Monstrosity a lot, but their older stuff isn't anything that special. Edge of Sanity is another group worthy of mention, but they're not really straightforward death metal in my opinion.

Spearhead's new one is ridiculously great! While Spearhead is not in my top 10, their latest release is highly, highly recommended. As for my top 10 list, here they are, in no particular order:

Demilich was close to making it, but I decided against it seeing as they only have one release. As for modern death metal, I really like what Man Must Die is doing lately and look forward to their next release.

I have been wondering the same thing about that new Fleshcrawl album, I would really like to get my hands on a original copy, but hopefully soon it will make it's way over to the US. Headhunter DC is still around and their new album Gods Spreading Cancer is simply good from start to finish. If you like Headhunter DC check out Impetuous Rage.

I would usually say the same but after human I really felt that they lost their touch. Human was their pinnacle in my opinion. I always felt that Chuck should have released the rest of the album under the Control Denied moniker and used. Aymar's vocals are way better suited for the material that he released afterwards. Individual Thought Patterns is borderline and passes as a Death album but Symbolic and Sound of Perseverance sound off to me.
