Diary of a Madman is Ozzy's best solo album. With tracks like Flying High Again, and the title track Diary of a Madman how can it not be the best? The guitar riffs and the darkness of it are spell binding. It just sucks it came out in 1981 and he hasn't been able to top it. I guess that's what happens when you lose one of the greatest metal guitarist ever to walk the face of the earth to a stupid accident shortly after the album's release. Damn that pilot. RIP Randy Rhodes.

I guess they call him the inventor of metal because he was the FRONTMAN of Sabbath, and Frontmans, usually getting most of the attention (save for AC/DC) I guess he got the position of "Grandpa Metal" by default.

I agree, he did not invent metal. But I do have to give him respect for his solo career. Yes, you hate it and can't understand why people like it, but most of his albums had some incredible songs. For my taste.

I don't know how people actually give this guy any respect. Being the vocalist of Sabbath (a terrible vocalist at that), without writing songs or lyrics, doesn't justify all the people who say "he invented metal".

Really? I agree with you that BoO, DoaM, BatM and even NRftW have a few stand out tracks. I even like some of what was on TUS. But for me No More Tears is where it is at. And the polished sound is fitting for the era and the man - Ozzy isn't underground, he's a platnium artist. His records have to sound a certain way for radio play. For me this album moves together nicely where as the rest of his output is only good as a Greatest Hits type deal. I find myself listening to NMT to it's entirety.

Still, my all time favorite Ozzy song is Bark at the Moon.

I assume you have heard much of his other music, cause it's hard to escape it (Crazy Train for instance). But as far as other albums go I think Diary of a Madman, Blizzard of Oz and even Bark at the Moon have individual songs that are, IMHO, superior to anything on No More Tears. And as a matter of fact, I think I prefer No Rest for the Wicked to No More Tears. NMT sounds too polished and overproduced, and the songs really leave me thinking something is missing.

IMO it's his most cohesive release and my personal favorite. It's the only one I own.

TRIBUTE!!!!! hands down my favorite and best ozzy album to date...honestly without randy i think ozzy wouldnt have been much at all...cause we all know randy pretty much is responsible for the first two albums to be as big of a hit as they were and are now and ozzy knows that shit to.

Being the absolute Randy rhoads Fan that i am i was torn between the 1st 2 solo albums and Tribute .. they are all great . I remember hearing Tribute and just getting that Rush for playing guitar all over again that i hadn't had since i 1st heard crazy train back in 81'. I was at ozzy's show here at the Alamo ..when he pissed on it ..LOL 10 yrs old but I was a fucking die hard metal head then ..(I blackmailed my step brother and cousin to take me,,lol) best blackmail I ever used !!!!!!!

Blizzard for me also, There are so many excellent tracks on that CD and it was a Great Debut for one of the Legends of Metal (pity bout the TV shows though)

I added the more well known live albums of his solo career to make the list a bit more comprehensive.

I am pretty comfortable saying that Ozzy has been a huge influence on the world of metal, whether you like his music or not. These days I think he has become somewhat of a joke but his resume is incredible.

I think my favorite studio album has to be Blizzard of Oz, with Diary of a Madman a close second, and Bark at the Moon a close third. Tribute is one helluva a live album, too. With that version of I Don't Know Steal Away the Night it's hard to pass it up. But I think in the end I had to go with Blizzard.
