That video was absolutely terrible! How could the band ever sign off on something like that and think "Wow, that really looks cool!" It looked like some stupid clip out of a sci-fi movie in the early 90s. Most music videos are terrible, anyway, but if that is the final product, just do a simple performance video then.

Yeah, Nostradmaus was a bit of a flop....
I was so excited when i heard the title track...and then...Visions showed up...and I'm like...

SHIT!!!!

And then I saw the "War" music video, And i lost alot of respect for the band...

Prophecy, Revelations, Pestilence and Plauge, Nostradamus, & Future Of Mankind are the only tracks you can really liten to on their own accord, other tracks scream of FILLER!

I've been trimming down my mp3 collection and after listening to some of Nostradamus, JP was one of the bands I decided to narrow down their full discography into just the greatest hits. About the only full album I'm having trouble getting rid of is Stained Class. There's some really good lesser known tracks on that one. Most of the other albums have a few songs that are still vital and then some tracks that haven't aged that well.

As far as Nostradamus goes... Pretty much in agreement with the general conesenus that the ambition heftily outweighs the listenability. I wasn't all that impressed with Angel of Retribution so I wasn't expecting much with this one. When I heard it was going to be a double disc concept-album I figured they'd slow it down and sprawl out. Filler tracks suck on 1-disc albums, but 2 discs with a lot of filler is really rough, and even the meat of the album sprawls. But like I said, I'm not surprised so I'm not especially disappointed.

I understand and completely agree with what you are saying.

At this point in the game, I think it is pretty cool that these boys can still be motivated to put out an ambitious effort like Nostradamus. I think the departure from their original sound was a major factor in their motivation, though. Just knowing that they were doing something different than a traditional Judas Priest album had to be liberating. While it would appear that they didn't pull it off on Nostradamus, I wouldn't mind seeing the band go in Opera/orchestral direction in the future, if there is one.

I'm not even going to bother with this album. I heard the title track, which was great, but the other songs I heard were pretty bad.
I think they definitely have the skill to play opera influenced/orchestral metal, and Halford does have the pipes for it. But I don't really see them actually writing an album like this. They were innovative, but that was by mixing some different blue collar music styles. This is something entirely different, and they have never really shown that they could do more than a song or two every now and then.
Whereas bands like Maiden or Savatage always had that influence in their sound, so they were able to really explore it in depth without really sounding lost or inexperienced.

I honestly think Painkiller is their only flawless album. In fact, here is what I think is essential Priest:

Stained Class
Hell Bent for Leather
British Steel
Screaming for Vengeance
Defenders of the Faith
Painkiller

Even then, Screaming for Vengeance is really spotty and British Steel is full of nothing but AOR friendly stuff.

They simply bit off more than they could chew on Nostradamus.

The album is one disc too many and has too much filler. The orchestra sounds off and Halford gives up his most uninspired performance since Two.
