The 80 gig purchased direct is $230 and only $180 at Best Buy .com. By comparison an 80 gig Western Digital is $130 at Best Buy.

Based on price only I would go with the Western Digital, of course, but on the other hand I would want the most reliable. Gonna have to do some more research on this subject.

Thanks, DZ. So sorry you lost all those mp3's.

Well at exactly 5:16 pm yesterday .MY external drive was officially diagnosed as "dead"

ALL my Metal MP3's are lost and wouldn't you know it my warranty was for only a year .

I bought my external in NOV of 2005 .ANd after speaking with my IT buddy at work it turns out that he was also working on another persons PC .with the same problem ..hard drive failure > But you wanna know what the really Screwed up part is??

Both the drives are MAXTORS .  So I am convinced and fully aware that western digital is way moreso the better choice . So if I were you Voodoo i'd stick to Western digital. Warranty is longer and the life expectancy of the drive is far better .I am also finding out that the bigger the drive the more problems You run into (on an External that is )

I'd keep it at 100 gigs ..just to be safe. Someolder PC's don't read the bigger drives .They see them and they show the capacity of the drive .BUT if you fill the drive past a certain read point for the PC ..it will crash on u ..The data will "write over " (i believe that is the word ..bare ??) and the Hard drive will have to be  reformatted .

I learned that the hard way ..LOL. when i 1st got my 200 gig MAXTOR ..which didn't last anyway...lol.

I am looking into these porty's now.MY IT guy say's they are very good.

Check em out Bare , Voodoo

and tell me what u guys think??

I know the feeling all too well man. I ran into the same problem the other day. I turned on my computer and come to find out the hard drive had crashed, so I had to reformat it. I just checked and the drive I have on my computer is a Maxtor.
