Alice Cooper was much more important for the theatrics than KISS was...

Yes and no.  Alice Cooper was more sincere and fun while Kiss was more about specticle.  Check out the footage of the Black Album tour from Metallica, it owes more to Kiss than to Alice Cooper.

Alice cooper was so much more influential than KISS as far as theatrics are concerned, Alice started it ALL whereas Kiss just got the Fire, and smoke machines on the guitars thing going good.

If you ask me, KISS was the first Metallica...sucky start...explosive middle carrer...and a slow decline...a "Countdown To Extinction".

And KISS had THEIR OWN RIVAL!!

Metallica had Megadeth (The latter being the victor )
KISS had Blue Oyster Cult.(IDK who wins there...)

Can Yo Say...Chloroform...?!

Now you can't compare Kiss to BOC.  BOC blows them out of the water in every aspect if you were to actually compare them.

Kiss was rock for the masses that used catchy tunes and visuals to really reel in the fans.  Alice Cooper (band and solo) were more about writing songs, not anthems.  The same for BOC.

Also, Alice had a stage act.  Kiss had a theme.

Agree on the BOC-Kiss comparison.

My wife's uncle is a HUGE BOC fan.  He inadvertently got them to play a show on July 4th here (in Frederick, MD).  He works at the post office and mentioned to a co-worker that he is big fan, talks to the band once in a while when they are in town, and said he would love to see them play on July 4th (there have been some big names playing shows in the past for July 4th).  Anyway, another co-worker overheard and just so happened to know the bands manager, or someone close to the band, and passed the suggestion along.  Soon after BOC booked the show.

I feel that KISS is one of the most overrated bands out there.  They're definitely not a metal band by any means.  They sure try to look metal, but I think they are just trying to compensate for lack of musical talent.  I've tried and tried to get into them because they seem to be such a major influence in the music careers of so many awesome bands, but...  I think most of that influence has been in the showmanship category.

Supposedly they put on a hell of a live show, but everytime they come around on tour I can't bring myself to fork out the money.  Maybe seeing them live would change my opinion of them, as it has with numerous other bands for both better and for worse, but as of now I give them a big giant thumbs down, and an astounding negative in the metal genre.

Even if they put on the best live show, I still wouldn't give them the time of day. A good live show isn't what makes a band good. It's the music.

Kiss has terrible songs, the musicianship is a joke, they're all about the image and live show. GWAR is the same exact thing

What you used to love now, you're gonna adore. With Charmin Ultra, less is more. Cha Cha Cha, Charmin.

Hi, yeah, I realize that I don't post much...but I do read a lot of the forums because everyone's opinions and conversation bring a smile to my face.  But I have a KISS story to share...I got to meet KISS in L. A. a long, long time ago. (yeah, I'm old.)  Makeup and everything I was very young and very impressed by their "superstar" status.  As far as being "metal", well um, idk.  I personally would not categorize them as metal.  Their shows were/are extremely flashy, very loud, all theatrics included, the music is ok-if you're into that...but WOW!!! I recently saw them and I realized that I never knew that spandex came in size 52 hefty.  You could hear the seams screaming from around the world.  OK, maybe that wasn't very nice, but it is true.  And yeah, once upon a time they impressed me and the fact that we're asking "are they metal?" must mean that they've impressed someone-somewhere-good or bad.
