Cradle of Filth, is more of a joke than Dimmu Borgir, but personally I really hate both bands.

Sorry about the 'Shagrath thing'... so black metal has disintergrated in recent years..... i am from greece and recently Dimmu Borgir gave an interview to the greek version of Heavy Metal Hammer magazine, in which Silenoz admitted that most of the band members have to look after their family and organise their lives and maybe that is why they delayed releasing their recent cd.... but both Shagrath and Silenoz stated that they are really commited to their job and act like professionals......this month magazine has an interview of Mayhem..... i know them.... i sometimes listen to a deal of their songs.....i can't say i really like them,but..i can 'stand' their music.......which do you think are the leading black metal bands at the moment???

While I do really love Dimmu, they haven't really been black metal for a decade.

It's not really easy to say who is leading the scene now.

What you used to love now, you're gonna adore. With Charmin Ultra, less is more. Cha Cha Cha, Charmin.

It's hard for me to tell exactly what bands qualify as black metal and which ones are borderline, but I think Enslaved is really good. Their last album, Ruun, is one of their best.

I also think I read that Immortal is touring again, so I'd be anxious to hear another album by them. Sons of Northern Darkness was a lot slicker than their older albums, but I really like that one.

There isn't really a black metal scene anymore. There are some great bands here and there, but a lot of the newer bands are pretty shitty. Most of the older bands that are worth anything have either changed or broken up.

What you used to love now, you're gonna adore. With Charmin Ultra, less is more. Cha Cha Cha, Charmin.

. . . and yet they get more crap than any other band out there today, solely because their one of the few bands with balls to venture musically.

Although they may not be a true norwegian black metal band anymore, they are definatly leading the scene in essence. .

I have loved Dimmu Borgir for a long time. Although they are not known as "true norwegian blackmetal" they are still pushing boundaries and promoting blackmetal world wide which is important. When I was younger Dimmu opened the door to many other bands such as Emperor and Immortal, which I listen to relentlessly now.
